View Full Version : S.O.S. re:"cool people"
cabaiste 09-28-2005, 09:20 AM Hey folks,
I could do with some help here. My boss has just told me to search the internet for 2D and 3D people to place into presentations. The requirement is for the people to be "young and cool". "think Canary Warf" he said. We used to use our own pictures but it seems that your average Irish person is too "frumpy".
Any help here would be greatly appreciated

How much is he willing to pay? Because that's the only way you will find high quality images/models that you can use without some kind of copyright infringement. Try turbosquid if you want a databank. But be prepared to pay lots of money. ;)

I'm hot, young and live in my parents basement and drive a truck to earn a living.
Wait, I gave away too much clues, they're bound to kick me off this 'young hot girls' chatbox now.
Cough. At any rate, Y0da is right, you won't get much high-quality pictures without paying something 'a lot'.
Thinking about it I've never really seen a person who looked "young and cool".. hm..

You're kidding right?! That is the worst piece of software I ever installed. For that price? Yeah right. Luckily I only had the displeasure of trying out the demo. Great idea, awful implementation. :)
Try some Blender artwork. I sure many Blenderheads would let you use their stuff.
Lately many Blender artwork is being released under Creative Commons license, even for commercial use, you only must give the original author (and Blender) credit.

sense of humor and sarcasm are hard to convey through forums, but yeah, I am messing around.
I figured you were kidding. My reply wasn't all serious either. Sarcasm does get lost in text. On a serious note, Blender has a free add-on script called MakeHuman that is great for setting up an initial body with lots of variables to get the perfect look. You can just import these models into Max or Maya and then rig, skin and texture them. I suppose you could do the same with Poser models but they don't come out very clean. But don't let my personal feelings deprive you of experimenting with Poser. You may find it suitable for your needs. Didi I mention that Blender and MakeHuman is free? ;)

You will have to pay for it, but try places like Getty Images. Here's a link that pulls images from their site of "cool people" : >>> Link <<< (http://creative.gettyimages.com/source/classes/FrameSet.aspx?&UQR=pcgrjb&pk=4&source=front&lightboxView=1&txtSearch=cool%20people&selImageType=7&chkLicensed=on&chkRoyaltyFree=on)
They have a pretty good search engine built in so feel free to search for better matches
Nothing wrong with Poser people. Like all 3D software, it just takes some learned skills in order to create decent images with it.

the worst part about poser is the fact that everyone can spot a poser model...

*SIGH* - For some reason people really like to tear into non-generic 3D software packages.
The short answer is that it takes a lot of skill to make a Poser model (or any 3D model of a human) look photo-real and I beleive that is what the original poster is looking for. Photos, or photo-realistic images of "cool people"
