View Full Version : free Expresso: VertexMorph
wuensch 09-28-2005, 08:20 AM --- as result of a thread from yesterday I did this Expresso this morning in my coffeebreak.
Thought I would share it with you guys, in case you have use for it.
Its a small Expresso that allows to morph 2 vertexmaps into a 3rd Vertexmap with a keyframable slider.
The userdata is on the expresso tag.
leave the dummy plane untouched until the links in the userdata are replaced with the final ones.

Just did a quick test with the target map in a Restriction Tag on various deformers. Funky!
This obviously has many uses, thanks for sharing.

just tried it, Thx olli !
i already wanted to merge 2 vertexmaps and that works great :)

hehe,Brian,
I am waiting for a confirmation of the pencils of a storyboard so i can finalize it--
and i am still waiting, so its a lot of coffee ;-)
btw.: didnt you want to call me because of something?
Olli
Olli, drink more coffee!
Thanks for sharing

Hey great expresso! I have a slightly modified version (With Olli's permission) here.
I've added a second slider that lets the two vertex tags get added to eachother as well as swap.
Thanks again Olli!

Very nice addition-- this is evolving into a nifty little animation gizmo---:buttrock:

This looks cool but what can be done with this?

you can morph the influence of vertexmap, so basically you can alter & animate the result of Deformers that use a vertexmap for restriction--
also you can use it to animate some Shave& haircut parameters that need Vertexmap-Input.

hadnt time yet to try it out. stupid hair is giving me quite some other trouble, but aparently thats more like a bug. and ive stoped working on the hair/grass for the moment and concentrage on the other parts...

There is also the Vertex Map shader. Useful for animating textures :)
Thanks guys. Is this stuff covered in the manuals? I would like to learn those techniques mentioned.

Quick test of animated texture using VertexMorph
(Sorry for .zip Movie, away from ftp  )
Edit: Added another little clip

yup, thats how I started to look if there is also a reverse shader that outputs to vertexmap (there is one as a Tag in DiTools).
One would be able to do that in expresso, too with the new bitmap-node.
edit: cool test-- the Vetrexshader definitely has some potential in conjunction with morph stuff---
I see some interesting wobbling deforming eyecandy stuff-- hmm--
EDIT2:
that second example rocks--
what did you do to morph the displacement-- oh wait, probably you did a layer-fusion thing in Displacement with the vertexshader--or--

I must have missed this thread...Thanks for sharing and I am most impressed that you went as far as breaking your coffee for this. ;)

Nice Olli
You guys might also want to look at Paul everett's Vertex morpher--

hehe--thats really how this thing happened-- i had the vertexmorph track and since i wanted to give some advice how to morph Vertextags in another thread (Shave manipulation for grass), I looked at it and saw it was from Paul Everett, but could not find out which of his plugs it belonged too.I just have too many.
So i started engeneering this in Expresso to give a plugin-independent example.
In the end, as Kiko has shown, its more flexible and easy to enhance once the basics of the expresso are covered.
