View Full Version : Ploting trajectories
Hey guys... I have recently gotten back into XSI. I've used max for animation (I know I know, don't like either, but it pays the bills) and I was just wandering if there was any ways to display the trajectories in the viewport like you can in max. I know you can plot trajectories, but it doesn't update with changes and actually creates a real curve in your viewport.... Hope there's a way to do it because i really like using this to smooth out my arcs... and the curve editor is not my place of choice to do that...
thanks guys...

it's called ghosting, it does exactly what you're asking for, and you can use the option to show curves instead of objects or centers, which will give you the same trajectory display you get in max.
the only downside compared to max is that, correct me if I'm wrong, I seem to remember that in max you can update these trajectories on-screen and that will trickle down and modify the function curves, in XSI it's just a display option, you still will need to work on the FCurves, but it's still a pretty good indication and makes one's life easier.
Thanks mate. I had seen the ghosting thing, just didn't realise that you could display a curve there... very cool... Yes you can edit in the curves in max, but that's cool, I don't really need that...
Thanks again...

you might need to tweak the ghosting options to get the best results out of it when using the trail type. some times it can be inaccuate, you can check if it's correct by plotting the animation curve and comparing it to the ghosting trail.

another downside is the speed, ghosting is slowing your playback speed.
Trajectories is the only thing i miss from max :( buhuhuhuuuuu.

Yes. It's one of the really cool things about Max that I know of.
