View Full Version : Hardware rendering particles
Shaykai 11-10-2002, 05:53 AM Hello i tried for 2 hours trying to figure this out and i surfed the boards to no avail. Ok, i want o hardware render some particle 'points' but the only way i can do it is if i go into hardware render buffer and then it only takes a 'screen shot' so to speak of my particles and doesn't render some of the stuff in the rest of the scene (for example, i have a glowing cube in there, when i hardware render the cube is there but it doesn't glow, when i software render the cube glows but the particles aren't there).
So i was wondering is there a spot to combine the two types of rendering so everything gets rendered in one swipe?
Thanks

Nope, not unless you pick a particle type that is software rendered. You'll have to do some compositing work, as is always the case when dealing with hardware particles. Render out your glowing cube and then render out the particles in the hardware renderer, making sure you have the proper alpha selected.
If you need a freebie compositing program, head on over to Jahshaka.com (http://www.jahshaka.com/) for a decent program that I'm sure will do what you need after a minor learning curve.
Once you get into it, if you have specific questions, go for it and we'll try to help you through it.
Good luck!
