It's very lovely Mona,

Seems you are improving a great amount on your sketches... NOt too much to comment, I had already told you how I liked the concept before...

The only thing I can say is that I had expected a more open cone angle.. to have a wider scenery. In this case your composition is caged shut by the wall of the old stone bridge.
Not much to do about it now.. But I personally would advice you to make a lot of light flow out from under it... to have a greater depth to the 'magic'.

Great work and Good Luck!

haha, your sketches are cool speially for having no wacom! sweet fairies you have there, very very cute. :)

here's some tricks to have the best possible controll with a mouse, maybe they help:
keep the optimum of the mechanics/optics, to have a clean transition.
powerdraw, have high mousesensitivety, wich helps having dynamic lines.
for cleanups, work with the lasso tool (sort of the airbrush way of masking).
work with low oppacity, to build up gradients slowly with shrinking/raising diameters of soft brushes and also try softseletions with lasso, to have a maximum of control. lol, i know cuz i painted snakedancer 95% with a mouse and i went trough that pain as well, if you can, just buy a used or cheap tablet, its simply much so much more handy...

keep up your lovely work, no worries, just enjoy and let your fantasy fly :) keep on rocking!

alex.h.: Luck... I need that, so thanks...
DaddyMack: and the fight has begun :bounce: and my coffeemaker is bubbling... so here we go...
Mason Roberts: I can show you a little bit of color anyway... but gonna be more, :arteest:

Mr.Black: I think i might try that, to wide the scene a bit... It´s gonna be more space to place all of my little friends then :) and animals... haha

Lemog: glad you like my "little dwarf"... and I go my way, promise, and let see what it takes me... maybe end up in a nutty place somewhere at the end :p

Gunilla: glad you find the "rubber" duck cute.. and I for sure will come soon and beg for help, i guess.. :wip:

Angel: glad that the sweetgirl expert liked my little fairy... ;) I´m happy to read all the tips about the mouse :) I´m for sure gonna try them...

and I just saw one thing, my fairy don´t have any wings... she forgot to put them on

Very nice color test... just one remark... it's a good idea the green plants part more dark at left, in the shadow... but maybe too uniform... various orientation of leaves give us certainly more contrats of colors, between dark and clear... only some thoughts of my first view...

but good starting point anyway... I already imagine the atmopshere, true good thing

makaron
10-06-2005, 12:30 PM
yup, you right Lemog, need more deepth to it, so more green paint it is... :)
and i guess that yunisirees will enjoy that... a more spectrum of green colors... ;)
right now I´m kind of fighting with the stonebridge, I maybe change it to a woodenbridge, wood seems eaiser to me to draw than stones...

Good start on the colouring, Mona - I agree however it needs more depth, and less uniform lighting.... As I am blissfully unaware of the appropriate workflow in terms of 2D, it might very well be possible that this is simply a question of you not having come to that point yet, in which case these comments may safely be ignored.

alex.h, SONIC-X and jamesMk thanks for colorcomments :bounce:

and I hope i can do more that a good start on the colors.. haha.. been trying to draw how water flows and moss on stones... so my little optimouse is working overtime, with company of the erasebutton :p

and I lost my little dwarf, he was cutting down mushrooms and since then he is missing... I have opacitystest here and bridges there, and some lizzards and duckies over there.. and the trees is some where... and the fairys is running all over the place... I need to clean my computer files I guess..
but the duck is still cute... now over to study stones...

TheFirstAngel

Hi Mona, finally made it to quickly jump into your fairytale :) I'm shocked about the dwarfes behaviour, just taking the mushrooms and fly away? nasty dwarf. :p

opening the bridge was a good idea, you win much dephg through that change.
A new layer in the foreground could help as well, like a fairy or two sitting on a treebranch maybe? or just a few objects closer to the camera, that give the scene a bit of a foreground.

now for a few ideas on light, an evenig mood offers, cute pastels, soft shadows, and then the fairies soft glow lifts em out. try to find a main lightsource, that is helping you to construck light and shadowareas, also, a bit a darker scene offer nice possebileties for cute lightaccents like lanterns, sparkling fairydust, maybe some glowing insects... hehe hope that inspired you :)

keep up your great work, cant wait to see you paint up all your promissing details you had in your concept into a beautifull and sweet piece to dream away with :)

Lemog
10-09-2005, 08:25 AM
I'm okay with sacha about a foreground subject... very good for the general depth of the scene...

The hole of the gate is very good too... a king of luminous gate, very interesting. You can just try to give it a shape more natural, as an arche... of if you really want to keep it like that, you can put some pillars at each sides.

I very sad to see that the dwarf was in jail now... I hope to see his come back soon...

and Lemog: I found him again.. my dwarf... ;) but he is not here today.. naaa he is looked up still.. but gonna try you idea later about with some kind of change on the bridge, to soften it up...

Eddie: mmm here it only nice cute things mate... someone has to balance your evil image too... ;)

Sorry Mona... I ask bad my question... resolution and size... just ask that cause I don't know if if done by jpeg compression, but your resolution seem very low...
...certainly I do a mistake...

makaron
10-10-2005, 09:26 PM
I don't know if if done by jpeg compression, but your resolution seem very low...

it´s done with save for web in photoshop, this last one i think itwas, very high and 72pix/inch and cm I don´t remember now  but I´m sure it could be better in saving, I just don´t now how... any pointers that can make it better Lemog?

Lemog
10-11-2005, 06:24 AM
I'm just asking that cause It's easyer to work with a great size as 4800x6400 by exemple (if the PC can...), also when we draw with the mouse...

for sure, to display here... you must reduce the picture and use a compression save, the better solution in photoshop is to use the "save for the web" possibility (ctrl+alt+shift+S)... you can see before save the result with many different compressions, and the weight. To upload here, the maximum is 150ko... you can setup your save near of the weight to have the better result.

Korline
10-11-2005, 06:53 AM
hello,
save for web it's probobly the best choise, you can ajust the image size there very fast,
anyway I'm not sure about that, what you are doing, I mean, cause, I love the initial sketch, it's so pleasent and calm but it has some spookiness in it,
I'm afraid you loosing this now, and just doesn't grab the eye anymore, and it's not cause I'm mean, it's just such nice idea worth working on it,
I think you need to stick to very few colors, just working the shadow and highlights like on the sketch, that how you can bring the depth to it and some kind of mistic feel, I would drop those creatures, and just put some kind like ghost/foggy shadows, but very delicate,
cause your colors are to strong now, and is to many of them, so for me it's confusing,
but if you go back to the sketch then, you'll see what I mean,
anyway it's just my personal opinion,
see ya :applause:

Good luck!

Well damned... I post early this morning... the message with disappeared

I retry...

As Zapan, I ask myseilf about your reason... but why not... too ways for you in B&W, depend your thoughts and your goal...
- you continue in color... and at the final... you passed to B&W... as an instant moment of something real, as a B&W photo... certtainly a good way, for a specific final mood...
- or you modify your first steps as If you do it yet in B&W, to increase some details, working on contrast... and you continue to work only in B&W... as a good exercise...

waiting your choice now... :bounce:

I see an awesome update:thumbsup: good progress, wall looks real cool:thumbsup: Well black&white is not a bad idea, but your subject is fantasy,so some-how I feel that your scene will look more cool with colours. Well the best example is the movie "The Hook" or "Peterpan":)

hey mona, very nice update, also, the bump on the stones looks very good. a little sugestion, to give it a bit more structure, you could try to five it on a higher level (in 3d its displacement) of bumping a give them a bit rougher bumps as well but still keep the nice bumps. got you a few refs i hope that come handy to you with this :) keep up your great work, cheers

11-02-2005, 06:46 AM

makaron
11-02-2005, 08:14 AM
shakes: I been thinking about the layers Q:n... and each "thing" as about three layers, lines, colors and shades... then when it goes into the big image, it only one... and that one... hmmm depends, about 10 layers I guess, at the most 15... my ol´computer don´t want any more, :D haha...

Angel: thanks and thanks for all the stones... it will come in handy, they are saved... maybe that why my computer *sighs* :shrug:he don´t like to work in this stonemill... haha

Nikolay: Thanks, happy to hear that... :bounce:makes my day...

Lemog: Thanks and agree, the middle part is a bit too dark... :hmm: but I thinking the same, keep it until the waterfall is done... the water is gonna make the stones a bit wet soo...

I´m thinking the light is from above, slightly from the behind of the bridge so the down part of the wall and the stuff there is gonna be rather dark... and hopefully a bit mysterius...

the snail : well , I like pretty things and just want to know, besides maybe I could give some tips to my fluffy squirrel buddy

the GP : oh ok got it now , but you have to pay for this information , do you have some peanuts in that things you're carrying on your back ?

Hej!
You should definately go with a bright sky to go with your bright concept! The duck and the plants are looking good! I have some thoughts if you dont mind:

I dont think the water should be blue like that all the way.. Water is blue becouse it reflectes the sky, am i right? In your image most part of the water should be given a color more like the wall which it reflects.. i think? :p Im not postive that this is correct, i just thought it looked weird with the water being so blue..

Your other problem is that many things in your image looks very pasted at the moment.. If you put some more work into shades it would help i think!

It looks like the grassplanes in the water are floating.. are they supposed to? The right onw acctually looks like its above the water, becouse of the shade under it...

De här fixar du ;)! Lycka till!

makaron
11-13-2005, 10:32 PM
hejsan Frozt... you point at the this that is left to correct, you are all right about the water and the shadows... my ol´poor computer can take too much at the same time... but I gonna try to fix it later... inkl the grass... it not suppose to float... and Tackar så mycket... :) tillbaks till fixandet...

Comp modification are good for me (details closer give a lot to the cop...)... and the grey sky ? why not... but the daylight on the environment can't rest happyness like that... it's doesn't works with a grey day... I think to prefer a blue sky... or a blue sky with white virgin clouds...

It's going wonderful Mona;
Just one small thing that you may want to watch out for on the path of finalising your work.

To in a manner try and tell the story with depth and accent. Try to outline more catching tones and textures around those that are in importance and degrade this according to the story to tell.
At the point you have got the work to; things are lovely but too broken up. Also there is a loss of depth at a point. Everything save from the mountains is at the same blurriness or sharpness. Let this vary according to depth. It will help your composition a lot.

hahaha love your new avatar. piglets are so cute, specially yours. the new layour looks like its working fine, maybe the trees are a bit too defocussed atm. it may help to settle on a specific lightsource. makes it much easier to create shadows and light.

here's a little sugestion on the light :)
i used slightly yellow toned light and slightly blueviolet (complementary colored) shadows :)
hope you don't mind the overpaint.

http://www.angel3d.ch/content/challenge/xtra/monalight%20sugestion.jpg

something i do for controlling the values is i make jpg of the piece, a new layer just in grey on top and then paste the jpg on the image as layer mode "luminosity" so i have a b&w of my piece and can easily ajdust values or sculpt out new elements in b&w

hehe, keep up the great work, looking forward to your development of the piece.

I am sorry to hear about the flattening... but don't be discouraged. Your work is looking great. As for shadows, I rarely use only one set colour for all shadows. It depends what other colours are around. It depends on the feeling of the painting that I want. If I want warmer shadows, I will use browns. I never use black. Hope that helps.

Life, love and freedom are wonders that I´m behold…
I been lost…
But finally…
I´m finding my way there…

When times get too busy, I take two of my best friends outside… The sun on the back, the lush verdure surround us, the peaceful surroundings is setting the mind free… No news from the radio about wars and starvation. No TV that shows action or load music… No must do that or this… No people that run around you in stress like ants…

You can take time to see what a friend, big or small, human or in fur, have to show you... If they speak in words or not…

That´s a spectacular thing too me…
