View Full Version : Anyone knows something about AE Ver. 7
Angryman 09-26-2005, 03:28 PM Hi all,
i was just searching the web and found some very undefined articles about an upcoming Version 7. Nothing defined. At the fmx i talked to the Adobe Sellers and they told me also what i found on the web. NOTHING EXACTLY.
The problem is, that we're planning to buy some more versions of after effects and if the new version of AE would be released at the end of the year we would try to wait till then cause it really seems to offer some great new developments.

I haven't seen anything definative either. Adobe's always so damn hush, hush...
I'd wait to purchase myself. Adobe has always been kinda of lame when it comes to upgrading products. I recently upgraded to Illustrator CS and not but 5 weeks later they came out with CS2, I didn't have any idea (searched for news on it, to no avail) since Illustrator has always had at least a two year run between versions. Needless to say no upgrade for me unless I dish out some more money...wasn't too happy about that.
So unless it says "free upgrade to next version" when your buying it, don't even for one second expect that they'll give you the upgrade.

This from Think Secret:
"New features in Version 7 of Adobe's leading motion graphics and visual effects software will reportedly include a revamped user interface, support for Photoshop Layer Styles, a Slow Motion feature, improvements to I/O performance, and the ability to manipulate text characters in 3D space. The update will also ship with a Graph Editor, sources said.
Although not solidly confirmed, it's possible that (as with Illustrator CS 2.0) Adobe will recompile After Effects 7 as a Mach-O application on Mac OS X. But the Mac version may require activation, according to reports.
Adobe plans to release After Effects 7 around the fourth quarter of this year."
While I'm sure Adobe can conjure up yet more features, you need to consider what is currently lacking in AE, or not added via plug-ins. The features mooted above don't sound like a deal-breaker to me. Also, I'd find it hard to believe that you couldn't buy now and get a cheap(er) upgrade in the next few months (assuming this timing is correct). Unless you're pushing the software 100%, do you even really need to upgrade?

I think the secrecy from Adobe stems from the ramp in competition-- Shake, Motion, Nuke, Vegas, etc. are becoming more popular and industry standard-- After Effects might be switching over to a node-based interface to compete-- but that's only speculation. I actually prefer the current set up-- Apple's Motion is a little too detatched plug-in and adjust for my tastes.
Whatever the next incarnation 7.0 takes, hopefully it will have more than a few filters, HD options, and CS labels...
 Adobe wouldn't just toss in a few bells and whistles would they? Hopefully they plan on authoring more generators and specular options-- more light control...

It's sad to hear that you went through that experience because Adobe told me that as long as you say; upgrade to 6.5 now and if within three months, 7.0 is released, you would only pay for the shipping.
