Hi...Pushav.....

Looking good...did you up the resolution on that last one....edges look a lot better, her eyes
came out great, along with the rest of her face....also really like the color you picked for the background, goes good with the colors of her skin...more finished looking.
Maybe could stand a little softening where the black areas in her hair , meet with the highlighted areas, and around the outter edge of the line of her neck on both sides...wil
make it recede into shadow and space more..
Each face is getting better....really nice style your developeing there...Pushav.... :applause:
Looking forward to seeing the next one..:)

Hey....Pushav....

I like that experiment with brushes....not as refined as the last few, but has an expressionistic
style to it....like the different shades of browns used on skin, and also that green around her eyes and skin....maybe a little green highlight in the pearls hanging from her ear also and
could soften that edge of her neck, just a little...minor stuff....:)
Nice to see you back by the way.....NICE JOB...keep experimenting....

Wow you're moving right along, and yup pino art's gallery is pretty powerful, rich color and the power of over using light and brighter colors, even if you look close to the paintings you'll see how he uses bounced light and a high glare where object and items are hit with light, I got a chance to see on of his paintings up close here in Arizona, I took a drive for a whole day to look at it and they wanted $3000 for it and it was a artisit hand touched and not a reprint(they kill me with reprints asking for $1500 dollars)

Great work V, now I need to play catch up (been busy thoe) :D!! cheers!!

HEY....WOW....:applause: REALLY NICE

This is the way for you to go when it comes to painting....just my opinion.
You got it just right....can be real loose everywhere, as long as you pay a lot of attension
to the detail of hands, wrist, forarms, face and neck...which you have...GREAT JOB...PUSHAV..

SpiritDreamer-Heh Heh Looks like I finally got it right after many attempts and my fail John Sargent wannabe strokes on the paintings in the past. Plus painter played a nice role in that painting lol. I had to start up the program once more. I love that opaque round brush that I customized with a clear impasto added to it. (It adds impasto without adding paint. I know that it is cheap and dirty but I have to fool people that I can paint with impasto on lol. Maybe I said to much.) I used a palette knife that I created in photoshop for her head to get that complete but not complete look like Sargent's and Pino's work. I could have done better. I did not think that I was able to pull it off in photoshop but it worked.

Rookie-I always wanted to buy his art books but at 100 bucks, I will pass lol. One day I may.

Rebecca-We can skip the level ups, I want to be Knighted lol. Just kidding. I will shoot for that level up. Maybe this painting is good enough for the anatomy spotlight best of personal antomy sketchbook thread.

I feel like doing another one real quick to post soon. I wish that there was a site with larger pino artwork on it. Most of the sites had his work at a small resolution. Thanks for the comments everyone.:D

KEEP GOING ......Pushav.....they will rarely be all perfect, but there will always be perfect parts in each of them..:)

I notice, that SOMETIMES you draw the face....lips and eyes in detail, ...when all that is needed is an impression....sometimes less is more....does that make sense.

Watch the hand....that one is a little small ....pay and give a lot of attention to the wrist, and
how the hand conects to it.....just minor stuff, but it counts.
You are getting it totally right on more and more of your recent works, and that is what it is all about. you have really developed a nice style of painting, on these last figures...now it is just a matter of getting the little kinks out....HANG IN THERE...each mistake is just something to learn from...

Would love to see you do a Sargent copy. I really think you might get a lot out of it. The brushstrokes Sargent uses are quite condusive to the types of brushstrokes you are getting in your digital paintings. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. :)

HEY....GREAT...you got Z BRUSH....:bounce: :thumbsup: :scream::eek: .... :)

I think that sculpting will really help you to see forms and planes on the human figure better,
and will really help you take your painting skills further. I also think it is time for you to invest in the Burn Hogarth books...His method of seeing the human figure, is custom fit to the Z BRUSH
It is more of a sculpting and sculpters method of depicting the human form...after all, he learned his method from studying Michielanglo, who was a scultper first, and a painter second.
Drawing the HUMAN HEAD by Burne Hogarth is the one you should start with I think...You can
get it real cheap..used on the internet...Google or albrigis I think the other one is called. It
will really help you out a lot...just like it does me...:)
I also think it is a good idea to stay away from the sub devide when you start your Z BRUSH
SCULPTURES...sub devide last, and do the details last...GET the PLANES down FIRST...
All of those FACETS created by the mesh...are great for creating the planes...kind of like
the blocking in method you use when painting...after you block the face or figure in with PLANES, then hit the sub devide, and everything will be right, and you won't have to add a lot to the piece, and won't end up with a lumpy out of proportion mess.
Start out with a solid foundation of planed surfaces first...block in method...always use this method ..just as if you were carving a piece of wood. or any kind of sculpture ...YOU ALWAYS...ROUGH IT IN ..OR BLOCK IT IN ...FIRST....
REALLY glad you got that Z BRUSH ...Pushav...now we can learn it together, and mess up at
the same time...:scream:
Talk to you later

Rebecca- how about that level up award:D I think this one is worthy.

Here is another Pino Master copy done in photoshop7. I left out certain elements (like a basket on the table ans pictureframes) from the original to set this one apart from Pino's work. I liked how this one turned out. I was experimenting with different brushes. To me it kind of looks like a craig mullins painting.

have the two hands ...one playing with the fingers of the other...kind of a nervus uneasy
hand gesture, Helps creat the mood and emotion of the person, ...the hands can tell the story, more than anything else, SOMETIMES ....And it needs that white glistening highlight on the vase, figure , wall ect. Really makes
you feel the heat of the bright sun, and brings those warm colors to life..:)

HEY....Pushav...

Your catureing that style that your going after nicely....you might want to vary the size and varity of your brush in the painting a little more....like on the young girls portrait you just painted, ...her dress
could be done with just a couple of very broad strokes...same on her hair. ect. You don't want to end up with a spaghetti look, where too many of the strokes are the same size and varity. When you notice the strokes more than the subject, it is not good. Just a little something to think about
in your future paintings

I am starting to get the hang of this program and creating my own brushes. This programe reminds you of painter and photoshop. It is simpler to use than painter and it is cheap.

Done in like 10 mins

And here is the workshop mastercopy that i am working on in painter IX. I normally paint like this in photoshop but painter 9 has nicer ghost brushing compared to 7.

What a way for me to end 2006.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

HEY...Pushav....
I like your beginning of that standing figure...think a closeup fineshed version of her face, crossed hands and wrist would
be a nice addition to your portfollio....she has a really nice serene looking face.Would make a nice painting just by itself I think..JUST A THOUGHT..:)
On the bottom one,....you might want to soften up the outter edges of her face a little..:)
HEY.....HAPPY NEW YEAR....:scream: HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT ONE.... :bounce:

Thanks for the comments.

Well it looks like someone took away one of my stars. I can't please everyone. Lol.
I am taking a break from digital painting due to my lack of inspiration in my own paintings so now i am picking back up the pencil and drawing once more. Lets see if I can get that star back soon.
Good news i just got a new scanner, 160 gig hardrive for my art, and new software. I am set now.

This is my quick sketch of Mugen from Samurai Champloo.

Hey Verdell, nice to come and have a browse through this thread again, thanks for your comments on my own. Your master copies have definitely got stronger, the last couple, even the beginnings of the Leighton one, are looking great. And man, you've got me wanting to draw Mugen now... he's such an awesome character, from an awesome show, nice job on the action, it defintely suits him! And the boy on the character sheet has a nifty pose too, caught my eye!
Keep up the great work!

HEY...Pushav...:)

You might want to be leary of falling into a fad, like speed painting, they are usually short lived, just like in the music world...gets to the point with them, where everyones stuff starts looking and sounding the same.
I have seen over a short period of time on this forum, a trend that is leading to a massive amount of unfinished ,unpolished works done in the name and for the sake of speed.
Has gotten to the point, where you can't tell if a clear layer was put on top of a master work, photo or whatever, and then just traced, and abtracted using speedy colorful brushstrokes.
This is not the case in your case, i'm sure but is worth mentioning none the less, because when imatation of style becomes the goal, individual style becomes extinct.
Expertice, ends up being substituted with abstraction...a condition that has led from clssical painting being rejected, and replaced by pure white canvases with nothing on them except hype, that sell for a million dollars.
Remindes me of a child who says...it's just too hard, so I will just paint the way I want to, skip the hard part, and call it beautiful and finished, so that I can hurry to the next one, and do the same thing on it over and over again...not much of a challenge, and for sure not much knowlage gained..just an avoidance of the facts..no pain, no gain....a wisdom that has become replaced with and by speed.
Just voicing a personal opinion here...has to do with the story of the hare and the tortoise....:)
Everyone runs the race in thier own manner...what counts is THE FINISH...:scream:
GOOD TO SEE YOU POSTING AGAIN ..Pushav...

Yeah I had to get back to speed painting just to get back into the flow of using my wacom tablet once more. Recently I have been drawing stuff and got rusty at painting. I started on a mastercopy but I quit painting on it due to the mastercopies being the same old stuff to me. Yeah some people trace big time but on my more detailed photos I put in time to try to get proportions right. I usually zoom in to get the likeness. I do have some animated gif images to show my progress on some of my work but the image hosting place messes with the gif file and it doesn't look right when I preview the image.

Good stuff dude - keep pushing those studies. You seem to have a spark there, and it will be nice when you really go for a full painting and invest in it. Can't wait to see that. ;)

Hi Verdell, great progress in your sketchbook. It's very interesting to see you looking for your personel style. I like the looseness you have in the Pino studies. Keep going!

Thank you very much. Fans seem to love my take on some of Pino's work. I have more that I am going to do. Right now I am in the process of making more brushes for my photoshop 7 to help texturize some of my work.

I amlost forgot how to do my Pino work due to not doing one in a while. I also know that this pic has anatomy issues also. I had to remake some brushes and I made some new ones to add to the style. This is just a warm up for the better pino work.

I kind of tried to get a retro book cover feel to this sketch. I should re-do this and turn it into a real painting and submit it to the cgtalk gallery.
Enjoy Until the next pino coming soon. Leave your crits or comments.
