Hello everyone;

I am a novice user of Maya. I am using version 6. I want to create a space scene. I tried to paint space and stars effects on a NURBS sphere which had a very large radius, but that did not look deep and realistic enough. I tried to apply a space image file on color texture, but that did not look deep enough (and of course, not realistic enough) either. I am stuck. So, I am asking your opinions. What is the best and realistic way to create a space scene?

Thank you very much in advance.

OK, use multiple surfaces(ie sphere/cylinder1 1000 scale, sphere/cylider2 2000 scale...).

On one surface have a some paint effects of galaxies/stars(this will increase render times) but is worth it.

On another surface have a texture of a nebula or something. Make sure you have alpha/transparency maps.

On your last surface, have a black background with stars painted on it.

Or use particles. Set up a bounding sphere and use it as a surface emitter. Once you've got a suitable number of particles, set the initial state and specify rendering and shading info, dump the emitter sphere and voila 3d starfield.
