To view my demo reel visit my website at http://www.nj3design.com

All 3D work in reel was done with Lightwave 3D.

I have already begun working on the next version of my reel so any constructive comments are appreciated to improve the reel. Thanks.

Not bad, for your first reel. Okay, some pointers:

1) Watch out for the editing -there is a black frame between the longshot of the plane and the close-up. It makes the cut look choppy.

2) I liked some of your camera angles, however, sometimes the camera came to an abrupt stop. Try to ease in and out more.

3) The T-Rex looked a bit stiff. Try to make his body move more with gravity as he walks and put a bit more life into him. The background looked pretty good, but the T-Rex texture was too plastic looking.

4) The plane that gets hit by the missle looked like it stopped in mid-air waiting for the missle to hit it.

5) Keep at it. I look forward to seeing your work develop. Best wishes, Fellow Waver! :buttrock:

hey man,

i just checked out your reel, and i hope i don't sound too harsh because we're all here to get better.
1st of all, i liked the explosion but the pieces flying apart was too....straightforward? it woulda been better if the pieces flew out in all different angles and rotate as they flew. It just coulda used some randomization.

2nd, the Rex's walk is nice, but too formulaic and mechanical. You gotta throw in some little twitches and more squash in his steps. It's probably the rig, but his ankles are way too stiff.

It's good to hear your workin on yer 2nd demo already, i'm sure it'll be much better 2nd time around! goodluck

*did u see that TV movie about the Arrow starring Dan Akroyd? Oh Canada!

That was pretty cool but I am not sure the inside of the dinosaurs mouth looked the best.

Since you're interested in dinosaurs, you might want to download the Messiah Animate demo, and take a look at the Don's Dino T'rex and the sample animation, and the dino rig.

I tried to upload a zip file with the video clip in it but I guess it was rejected for it's huge 3KB size ? ;)

looking pretty good :) the T-Rex I think just needs some more side to side wait transfer to make him have that weight that you would expect. but other then that he looked pretty good, your definatly on your way to good things

Thanks for the feedback guys! All this feedback will greatly improve my next reel. I find that sometimes after u work on a project long enough and stare at the same thing for weeks or months it can be hard to pick out flaws in your own work.

I am hoping to have my next reel out by March or April next year. It should be much improved over this last one. I am planning on redoing the rig and textures for the T-rex and have a fight scene with another Dino most likely a Triceratops. I am also considering getting Messiah Animate although I can probably manage with Lightwave tools anyway.

I did see that Messiah demo with the T-rex and I liked how it was so easy to rig the feet so the toes would automatically bend or straighten when the the T-rex took steps. I wonder if there is an easy way to do that in Lightwave because I had to use Motion Mixer in my reel for the toes bending because there was no way I was going to animate every toe joint for each step.
