When you save in Zbrush, there are two ways to save. Zbrush asks if you want to save the tool, or the canvas. Saving the tool will save a 3d version of the object you are working on, and saving the canvas is a pixol based image.

If you didn't save the tool (.ZTL) you lost the 3d object.

Yet another. Coming from a background of another kind of 3d application one doesn't associate a "tool" to be a 3d object. AND hitting command "S" or the pc equiv to saving ones work doesn't apply to the zbrush world. Why this isn't taken into account and accomidated for like ...oh lets say...hitting the shortcut key to save BOTH the document AND the 3d object. Wouldn't that be...ummm whats the word..."intuitive". Anyway it's happened to me too. Zzbrush is different. Whether different is a good thing depends on who your asking. lol.

Zbrush is a different animal but it's SOOOO GOOOD when you get used to everything. :) It doesn't operate like other 3d applications because really it isn't a 3d application in the sense of things. If I was stranded on a desert island that had electricity and a computer I'd bring zbrush. ;)
