View Full Version : XSI SubDiv help...
tachy0n 11-09-2002, 07:19 PM Couple of questions for XSI 3:
1. How do you set up SubDivs, so that they can be modeled/animated at level 1 and render automatically at level 4 ? I tried adding Geom Approximation, but it seems to have no effect... maybe it only works on NURBS ?
3. Is there some kind of 'connection tool' in XSI (a'la Maya). I wanted to set up a symmetry mesh, so that i could model one side, and have the other update... kinda like CPS in Maya.. but no luck so far.
2. Does XSI have some kind of SSS shader built in ? or please point me to a plugin/tute
-thanks

1 in XSI ver 3 OgL and render level are seperate parameters
3 use symmetry look up Manipulating Points Symmetrically in the manual
2 on netview there is an "fake" SSS shader example

Strange, it should work. In the Polymesh tab of the Geo Approx ppg, you have to increase subdivision level. To turn on geo approx on an object select it, then hit the + key on the num pad.

The symmetry template is one way, but another is this: clone the original half, scale it in -1 on the axis you want. When you are done, delete the copy, and the original, do MCP > Edit > Duplicate/Instantiate > Duplicaite Symmetry. Select both object and do a Merge, then freeze the merged object.

It's the Volume Effect shader.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot.... that really helped
1. Doh !! I was actually adjusting the sliders in the 'Surface' TAB... never even looked under the Polymesh one..... !
2. Kewl idea... i'll try that. The symmetry mode is nice but it doesn't update when you change the mesh
3. Found a few tutorials for this at :
