Good as a beginning, I think?. erm, the snow must be way darker or the cottages must be way lighter. They dont match. Add the bump image you got as a displacement map instead then it will be much nice at the bottom intersections of the cottages. Also perhaps smudge the intersectons a bit in photoshop aswell. The trees in the second image looks way nicer with only white. Erm, I dunno. But it has potentials (IMHO ;) )

EDIT: Is "grafik design" in your link really german, as its desame in swedish then

Youre right, I'm busy with fixin all of this. I've postet some testrenders from the last two days, actualy I've got no time for a big new testrender. I'm not sure if I want the cottages ... hm ... for the trees I have three versions: green with white dust, green with HN-Snow and only white (ice) ... I gonna try only white with HN-Snow, too :-) In the moment I try some different light-setups, but it seems the actualy fits perfect. Cause I made all tests in different scenes, the snow-material is different. At the end it will be all the same :-)

Oh ... yes, we really call it so. Today it would be 'Graphikdesigner', but I'm an old one :-) I use the former version 'Grafikdesigner' ... its nearly the same as in English, but thats normal with 'new' words in German, we steal a lot :-))

I've changed the cottages and played around with the light again. The ice is not final in the moment :-) I'm thinking about the background, too ... hmm :-)

Thanks :-) I had a look at your wip too, but I closed the window before I could say something :-) Looks nice, so far. I had an indoor-christmas-theme last year - or was it the year before? Hm ... - and wanted to go out this time :-) Cause of the moode I would suggest to put the center of the image in front of a window, so you could get some more 'winter-moode' with the outside (sorry, my English is not the best, no time to train it:-) ... what I mean is iceflowers at the glass, lightet trees in the garden and so on. But thats maybe only the trashy christmas-way of mine :-))) I like your materials, the glass looks very nice.

Are we the only ones or am I to stupid to find the other wip-threads? ... öhm ... :-))

Cheers Erik, there are one or two WIPs on the main contest thread but that's about it I think. Maybe people are being cautious about showing what they're up to! :)

ARGH! to slow again ... maybe they don't show, maybe we're the only ones :-)) Hehe ... we will see :-) It's hard to make a christmastheme at summer ... I had to put my head into the refrigorator for some hours to get the right moode :-))

Here is a test with icy trees ... takes long time to render, but I like that (I mean that ice:-) The smoke will be replaced with pyro later.

This is an early ice-shader-test for the figures ... maybe I put them in the garden or so ... I'm not sure

Nice! Love the ice mats!

now I think I have to hurry with my final, I do the last settings and start it, cause the testrender without the icematerial took more than 18 hours for 80% ... the icematerial is replaced with a simple white here. The black blocks are alphamap-errors wich come from the pyrocluster-tag on the environment-object ... the support is still lookin, I fix it with prerendering the trees and mapping on the prerender.
I'm not sure if I should keep the stars or not ... what do you think?

And there is an test with the C4D-bauble ... I will put it in the final-render, but it takes a very very very very lot of time (very very very) - or do you think its to much? If I leave it, I maybe finished in time :-)

uuupss ... sorry ... I tried to edit it, but it didn't work, so please copy the whole link into the browser, then it works ... just add a 'www' before it ... seems that the script of this site don't like spaces in links :-)
