Hi Everybody;
I’ve lurked my way through the previous challenges, but this time I thought I’d get off my ass and do it.
My first thought was to ask what do I know that is already Spectacular? My answer—the only man-made structure visible with the naked eye from space-the Great Wall of China.
For my subject: I propose The Great Trans-Pac Skyway—a series of impossible suspension bridges connecting Hong Kong, Tokyo, and San Francisco with two lane blacktop.
My image will be a postcard card from Rest Stop 241, the infamous resort at the ‘Y’. Theme park, free trade zone, and international crossroads long forgotten by AAA.

I like it! At the moment that's all I can think of to say so I'll leave it at that. :thumbsup:

The Trans-Pac started as a brilliant engineering project, but then as these things always do it deteriorated. What the politicals, scientists, and bridge-builders hadn’t counted on was once the skyway was in international waters the rulebook went out the window.
The span is now 8000 miles of free-trade zone inhabited by pirates, con artists, squatters, mercenaries, and refugees. Wise travelers move in chartered groups or very quickly and quietly through the shadows.

Just a quick color sketch. Starting to look closer at some of the denizens of the bridge.

Major changes. (There are so many ways to approach this idea.) I’ve started putting down the stories that are steadily dripping into my mind as well as the images.
Thanks MattGyver. Preciate the good word.
Thanks too, Korline.

Those concept sketchers are wonderful, I especially like the two fly-overs (cables) and scaffolding (really helps add that extra something).
Can’t wait to see more and please don’t "lurk" your way through this challenges I would love to see this scene in all it’s coloured glory.

Beautiful work . Don't know if we could name it spectacular on his aim but the work is impressive.

So here’s a rough color pass. I’m looking for lurid and acid on this one. This is a postcard for someplace that’s too dangerous and unpleasant to actually want to visit.
The composition is pretty much settled though there are many critters to add. Also the strange polka dot pattern is just a rough out on where the light falls.

AMazing - some of your design is beautiful - I'm loving the postcard and the second sketch the most. What do you draw with initially?

Here’s the current state of affairs. A long, long way to go yet. I made a mistake. I shoulda done this as a 3d piece. I thought I could get more atmosphere into a painting. I still think I can, but there isn’t one thing settled or finished yet and only a month to go. Lot’s ‘o hours of work ahead.
Cheers all and I hope things are going better for you.
