Wip modeling body :
> 1480*1755 render test of the head < (http://david.tifano.free.fr/dl/femme_elf_HD.jpg)
Render test :
Here a character that i have just starting... I always have done some créatures, so i decided to make a girl.. (my first try to make a complete model in 3dsmax).
A good way for me to practice modeling, texturing skining lightning....
Actually I am modeling the body and go back later on the head and hairs.
I used 3dsmax with mental ray... the hair is shave and haircuts (max 7.5).
The hair is composited in photoshop (it's really visible) but it's just a test..
I hope you like it (or her :) ),
Please, don't be to hard with critiques, I am just starting this model and I am not a skilled modeler. Thanks and sorry for my really bad english
Here the wireframe, there are still some polygons probleme but i will correct them later :
Thanks in advance for your comments...

Good start dt3d!
Wire is clean and simple, and texturing start is impressive.
With just the one angle, crits can be a bit difficult so these are just some suggestions.
The eyes are too far apart maybe? There is something a bit strange there. I think the profile of you`re face might be a bit flat. Try sinking the eyes into the head abit - yes I think that is more likely to be what is bothering me. Also the eyebrows are a really strange colour considering the colour of the hair and makeup, they dont seem to fit you`re colur scheme. It is great to see an idea about what colours you want so early on!
thx for your comment..
some different angle of the face..
Yes i will check for the eye, i want to made her a little bit "eurasie" not really occidental, not really asian maybe i made her face too flat..
Considering the eyebrown you are totaly right, i will change that.. thx...
Sorry, I lost the picture in the first post.
Here an update of the face i have started some time ago,
I am not really happy and i am still working on it (face and hair), still improve it
I have started the body but i am not really sure of the design
Comments and critics are really welcome...
01-29-2006, 06:59 PM
its nice girl :) .. really
but the reflected boxs in hr eye dont match the background
& like "pgland" say the eyelashs
thx for you reply, I will check the eyes, I see what you mean, I use a simple raytrace shader on it and i think it is not the best way to make good reflection..
I hope i can have somme comments to know what i can improve and how.. :)
here a wireframe :

She's looking beautiful.
Only one thing that's bothering me, are the lower eyelashes(probably the upper too). They probably need a little opacity or a little less dark or both, i know that there is something but i hate it when i don't know what )#_$#@$&)#$)%.
- Try to put some blood veins in the eyes, they look to clean compared too the very nicely textured skin.
Well you still get 5 stars from me, she's already looking absolutely stunning.
I can't wait to see her finished
Keep up the good works,
Thanks a lot HansoS, I made a small update of the eyes. Not great, but still trying to have something better.
yep, very cool job.
Nice face and eyes. But i think the hair looks above to flat maybe the lower range is ok. It is difficult to explain, this i just a personal feeling.
Otherwise it is really impressive congratulation :)
02-04-2006, 10:25 AM
:applause: najse job!
hello all of you,
here another update, changing the face and a render test, as usual, comment and critics really welcome, many thx:
Actually, she's something like speedball/rollerball girl, I don't know if i will kept this direction...
here a face view, still testing :
02-12-2006, 10:24 PM
wow, looks great! keep it up!
to be honest I like the head with the hair. It gives me a more nice feeling of her.
maybe thats because I've seen so many feamles with helmets. just my thoughts..
02-12-2006, 10:25 PM
superbe rendu, beau travail, si je peux me permettre, je mettrais juste un peu d'opacity dans le verre au niveau de l'oeil pour que l'on puisse le voir, sinon le reste rien a redire..waiting for update...
She looks marvelous. I don't know why you shouldn't be happy with her. I wish I could model and texture like that. Sigh! As for improvements, I have no real tips or advice, just two or three ideas. You could sculpt some indentations between the nostrils and the tip of the nose. Most people have them. Also maybe add some detail in the cheeks. I think dimples would look great on her. As I said, just some ideas.
Many thanks for you reply!
jjcoolio yeah, you right, but helmet is more easy for me to test, when i willl be happy with the head I will return to the hair (maybe hair and helmet), but it's true that hair give more personnality to the character (ps: your work are so good..)
The glasse was transparent before but I have a serious bug with the shader who's crashing 3dsmax, so for the moment I can't make it transparent :(
Really nice ideas olaf, I made the dimples but maybe too tiny.. I will enlarge a little bit.
Actually i will try to improve the eyes and improve the rest of the face. But i am still trying to have some correct hair..
Here some new (simple) wire for those who are interested :
hi, an update again :)
03-05-2006, 04:05 PM
Amazing job. Good!!
here a closeup of the face :
03-05-2006, 07:19 PM
wow! this is looking very good  try using a transparency map on the tip of the eyelashes, might make them look more natural :)
could you give some light on how you make that leather shader? does it actually has a reflectiveness on it?
03-05-2006, 08:12 PM
Ouch it's very beautiful, the render is very good
03-05-2006, 08:51 PM
It's a photo, don't take us for a ride ;)
Really nice image ... i love it! :D
if it wasn´t for the eyes, I would thing this one was real!
Marvelous! She's really beautiful and the skin has so much detail I am execting to see tiny hairs on her cheeks every minute now. :)
03-06-2006, 09:51 AM
Hey dt3d great piece though something looks wrong with the eyelashes. On another note did you model the body under the clothing or just the clothing?
03-06-2006, 10:05 AM
hey david !
see you :)
Your work is way up there mate! Great modeling skills. Unbelievable texturing skills! Rendering is good, but lacks photo realism. Maybe this is the effect you're going for, yes?
As a whole, Excellent!!!
03-06-2006, 12:49 PM
Nice shaders on the leather and the skin there. This is certainly looking like a front page image, did you send it to Expose yet?
My only suggestions would be to maybe put up a zbrush or normal map pass to amp the bump and too essentuate all the subtle imperfections on the girl's face that will break up the unnaturally smooth shading and silhouettes so commonly seen in computer graphics. But i guess you can disregard it if you are not really going for cinematic realism, judging by your textures and shading of your work.
i'd also like to compliment you on your render, are you using any special rendering for this one(FG, GI, SSS)?
03-06-2006, 01:36 PM
impressive. great details
03-06-2006, 03:21 PM
I love the detail in the face. It looks so friggin realistic! Do you make your own textures or do you just use textures that are availabe on the internet? Excellent model. Cheers mate.
many many thanks for your reply, you help me alot to improve my work....
Yes, I need more work (a lot) on the eyelashes and the eyes, I definitely not satisfied with that.
Great tip Diegofloor, thx.
Ashford_butler : Thks :) , I model the body with the cloth, but actually it 's just a start so this is not a finished body. I will finish the head and after I will return on the body.
Tony : Congratulation for your arward, you really deserve it (Still regret to not have some closeup, because your modeling and texturing is so fabulous!!). Yes, Some infidelity to zbrush, I need some practise with polygons :)
Giom : thx for you critics, but you're right, I definitly do not want to make photorealisme.
maybe something more graphic.
Jinian : Yes, realism is not my point, put i will try some zbrush work. (not sure because I have some serious crash when I want to export the displacement map). For the render I used MentalRay and final gather. SSS fast skin shader for the caracter. Nothing really special.
Authentic, touny, sevan, odf Thx for your comments :)
Leo : For the texture, I made a hugue one (6200X3000 , yes i am crazy) With photoshop. It is based on differents photos with some paint elements. For the start, I have planing to paint it on zbrush but I haved some bug, so I find another way to make it (and I am not very good for painting :( )
(sorry for my bad english)
a little fix of the eye and angle a bit different :
03-09-2006, 01:48 PM
Your renders are really beautiful!
Great shaders!! Leather is photorealistic.
Could you tell something about your materials and your light setup?
I just update the previous picture with an eye and eyelashes more clean.
The light is really simple , 1 spot on her left and 1 omni on her right :).
>better resolution image< (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/dt3d/dl/harima-hd)
03-09-2006, 05:13 PM
This is looking very good, your shading, lighting and texture work are all superb, my only bit of advice would be to please *please* lose the default photoshop lens flare, it's not even coming from the brightest bit of the image and it detracts from the overall quality level quite a bit.
Just my opinion though ;)
03-09-2006, 05:43 PM
Imho the texture of the eye looks a bit "washed" ... don't know :)
03-09-2006, 09:04 PM
textures are amazing man, wow, great job overall.
03-12-2006, 09:11 AM
I love this update!the design of the clothes is great.
The eyes can be improved in my opinion, what shader did you use for it?
hello, Sorry but the site, where I put the image, is closed because of bandwidth use...
So the first pics of this thread are all gones.
Anyway here a render test of the head.
Actualy I have just started the body
here the wireframe :) :
04-08-2006, 05:12 PM
damn.. that's nice texturing and modeling too... when I/if I ever can do that, then i'm happy with me, and aint nobody telling me anything else... alas, I am a noob:P
But really love it!! NIIICEEE!.. did u use any plugins at all? sorry hadn't have the time to read all the post but did you make the skin texture yourself?
Really beautiful, in every respect. Wow!
04-09-2006, 11:37 AM
better and better,she's beautiful!!
04-09-2006, 11:45 AM
very nice render, the only thing i would maybie add is a little more specular and or reflection to the inner part of the lips to show that there somewhat wet, very good work though, i love the cloak material!
04-10-2006, 08:35 AM
Excellent work ! I like this sss shader, all seem under control (specular, intensity of the colour map etc.)
Le rendu est superbement maitrisé, quel technique utilises-tu pour que ton personnage aille si bien avec le décor ?
The style and the lighting of the whole picture are greate !
Bonne suite !
Can't wait to see the body.
04-10-2006, 09:29 AM
Perfectly to me
5STAR from me
keep it up
Thanks for your critics
Here the start of the body, I have not started some part (like the hand) I am still trying to find some good topology
Thondal : Thx, i used some photo mix with paint element in photoshop..
04-12-2006, 10:46 PM
She is beautiful.
Your lighting and textures are really good.
Do you plan to make some other expression for her face?
Well, the body is perfect too! The only crit would be the hands - something looks off, but I'm sure you're still working on them. She's turning out to be a real bomb!
Here a little update. I am not really close to what I want,
So I am looking for some comments and advise. I am not sure about
Many thanks in advance...
Here the modeling :
04-17-2006, 08:51 PM
think you should give her a longer eh.... dammit.. me and my english... :P eh.. her "pants" think they should be like a "cape" dammit i don't know how to say it... eh.. lik now you have like this:
sorry for the really bad drawings.. paint + bad time + no skills at all ;) :P
thx thondal for this nice drawing:) I inderstand what are you saying, I will give a try.
04-18-2006, 03:28 PM
She's great, maybe legs should be a little longer, but she's really great!!
Many thanks Vandergoes, I think you right, I have made her legs a little bit longer.
Here a better view for the proportion. I want to find good proportion before to continue the modeling :
04-18-2006, 09:00 PM
heeey you picked a great outfit for her.....nice job so far:thumbsup: keep us updated
04-18-2006, 09:38 PM
very nice work ! good modeling.
04-18-2006, 10:16 PM
really nice work so far
the only thing that I would check is that crease between her breasts, at the height of her nipples, I don't think it is right.
04-19-2006, 03:03 AM
great modeling! Keep it up :)
Wao! You're doing well with this one! Cant wait to see more!
04-19-2006, 08:13 AM
Awesome work !! Maybe the feet are a bit odd. I really like this character. Well done !
Merci à toi pour la réponse et continue ce super taff ;)
04-22-2006, 12:25 PM
very cool! :bounce: i loke her very much!!
i give u 5*****!!! ha!
hi, first I would like to thank you for your reply..
I have made a little update, I would be happy to know what you thinking about it. I am not really satisfied with the body/proportion :
Here another view in wire :
A closeup of the head in good resolution (1480*1755) (render test): HERE (http://david.tifano.free.fr/dl/femme_elf_HD.jpg)
05-02-2006, 11:19 AM
It's at bit difficult to talk about general proportions with this view, but i can say your forearm is too short, and the biceps is too long, just made a quick photoshop change :
05-02-2006, 12:15 PM
I enjoy your progress on this character, female characters are quite hard to do, you're doing great. Definitely follow falfa's advive on the arm proportion, other than that I can't really pick on anything. Good attention to detail, keep it up
:D Arg, you are absolutely right!! when I read your comments it disturb me a lot..
You are right Pierre, Woman are harder to do than man
:) .. one vertex away and you have not a woman anymore! but it is a good exercise
Thanks both of you for bringing me your light and your great experience!
I put some modification. I will correct the mesh for a better shape when I will be happy with the proportion, I have some little problem with the modifier physique..
Here a very small update (not enough free time:D), this is a posing test, I don't know if it would be the final comp, but I think I will represent her in a tree with some elf structure element :
05-14-2006, 10:03 PM
like the pose how it is now think you should leave it like this
05-14-2006, 10:13 PM
looks nice, but maybe you could make her lean towards the tree... if you understand, so that's she is kind of resting, and looking out on the landscape ;)
05-14-2006, 10:30 PM
Wow! very beautiful model David. C'est vraiment bien! i also prefer the model with the hair.
Keep goin' on..i'll check the next update..kepp it up!
05-15-2006, 01:50 AM
I like the start for the pose, but It looks like she might topple out of the tree. Maby have her left leg proped up on the small branch sticking out next too her foot. Doing that would allow her be ballanced on the branch.
05-15-2006, 03:22 AM
I think she should have her hair a little longer in my opinion. 5 *'s great work. Looks like she belongs in a Final Fantasy game. :)
05-15-2006, 03:57 AM
really nice stuff, only thought is the pointyness of the nipples, but i suppose if its silk... and its reeeeealy cold out. other than that looking Aces, really like that hair.
05-15-2006, 08:23 AM
awesome work. she's really cute. :)
also great details on the cloth.
i'm looking forward to the textured version, keep going.
Great work you got there, my only crit would be that her left arm seems a bit weird where it bends. just a little tho.
The modelling overall is awesome, keep it up! :)
05-30-2006, 09:46 AM
Really a great work...compliments...
05-30-2006, 10:09 AM
Really like your renders! Great modeling too :)
I'd just say that the standing pose is not weighted right - she looks a bit unsteady like she was about to topple over :) Love the irregular eyebrows
