I tried sending this out earlier today.. Didn’t work!.. Here’s another try

No this isn’t an absolutely finished project.. I still have lots of issues to clear up; both in modeling & texturing.. Here is where I need some help.. Does anyone know of any good car material tutorials?.. I’ve been stuck with these results for 5 days now (I’m not getting anywhere quickly). My main problem is with the metal-ness of the surface.. Black looks ok but only in the dark.. it’s when I try sun light that the surface starts to look shabby.. I get too much of a reflection.. & the specular just bleeds everywhere. I have a similar problem with the windows where they look fake in bright settings.. Any advice?

As for the model, it isn’t an exact model of the Passat.. I think I’ve mixed years on the rear lights. Plus there are still plenty of doodads (finishings) to model

I’ve seen a few other models of the VW Passat that just wowed me.. Think, I’ll go back to the drawing board- even for the model.

DEFINITELY a good piece of work you've got there! If you wouldn'tmind a few crits...here they are....
1 ] The headlights need a bit more work. they're too dark.
2 ] the car shader you've used looks a bit dull, you need to polish it up just as a real car would shine.

other than this, itz very well made. all the best.

cheers

Nice work, I like the reflections but the tires looks a bit smal
and you should try to add some more details to the inside, maybe
you could add some textures to the seats.

Keep it up.:)

Damn man, looks awesome! The textures look great to me, I love those reflections.
But maybe they look different in more light..in which case I really wish I could help you out, but Im just an idiot noob.
Just going by eye, the headlights look a bit odd..like theyre black..lights..or something..
Well whatever, I cant wait to see this finished =)

way nice looking, kinda blurry but not, got any wireframe views?

and some closeups around the headlights, I feel I'm missing out on some cool detail.

Nice work!!:applause: Great modelling!
But i think u need to work a bit on headlights, since they look kind of too dark, for me at least.

Thanks for the replies & comments.
I know of the problem with the headlights.. somehow I can't get the surface to brighten up. I've tried to add some self illumination, it does brighten it up, but it also educes contrast.. I haven't worked on it for about a week.. & my schedule is so full I have no idea when I can get back to my trial error method.. At this stage, I would greatly appriciate a nudge in the right direction.

I've included an image of the wire frame pre-subdivided. I hope it's of some help.. & don't hold your breath for headlight close-ups I don't think I'll leave my PC to render such a useless & ugly image for 3 hours. LOL

two things

-the wheels look small

and

-shouldn't the silver trim go all the way around the windows not just the bottom portion?

Remember all my chatter about the bad results of day-time environments on my car.. well I’ll share this one with you.. just a slight adjustment of the color.. & a bit less metallic.. I think you can see that it reflects far too much for a car’s surface.

- This image also illustrates that the chrome finishings on the window’s trims do actually go all around.. I haven’t actually studied the Passat so I don’t know if trims are indented or not.. I chose to make them indented, which is why they didn’t show from all angles.

- Wheel comments: I don’t know where I could have gone wrong on these.. I got comments on these from my friends as well.. I swear I sized them as per the passat’s schematics.. blame the company for making such sissy wheels not me ;) Anyway, we all know size doesn’t really matter.

Again thanks for your comments, they're very much appriciated.

Best regards,

Check the Passat made by Raz ( www.raz.ro ) for reference. It looks way better.
Yours it's ok too.
