I dont assume that you will magically know exactly what is happening to my computer, but maybe you can help me figuring out what is causing this.

I just formatted my computer (complete formatting) and I thought it was going to get rid of this problem but it didnt. The computer is clean free of malware, spam popups etc. but no matter what program I install to it they crash after a just minutes of use.

The first program I installed was firefox and even firefox suffers from this. The machine is very unstable and what I want to know is if hardware can cause this? maybe causing an error to the computer??

my settings are:
athlon xp at 2100 +
1 gig of ram (three sticks two from the same brand one from a different brand)
Sound blaster pci audio card
geforce 2 gts 64
(dont remember mother board)

The only 2 things that I can think of are:

1- the geforce 2 drivers. When I was installing them windows said the drivers did not passed the compatibilty test....usually I dont care about this, but can this be causing the error? my videocard is from hercules guillemot, they dont have any updated drivers.........

2- the usb mouse works and then stops working....maybe the usb port is causing a problem??

I dont know maybe you can give at least ideas of things that make computer programs crash.....thanks

You should try your sticks of ram one at a time to see if that helps solve the problem. This is definately something that could be hardware related. I dont think you need to be worring about your video drivers so long as you got them from the nvidia website..

Remove non-essential parts (soundcard for example) and see if the system becomes more stable. Really, just trial and error type stuff, but at the moment seems to be the best things to try..

Aye sounds like broken ram, install MBM5 and check your temperatures too. If you have spare ram try that.

Mixing brands isnt a good idea with ram, try replacing the ram you currently have with 2 x 512mb solution.

So even though the ram is still showing in my system settings, there is a possibility that there may be a problem with it? hmm, Ill see the prices for the ram my motherboard supports, if its kind of expensive Ill just save and buy a new computer since I need a new everything urgently !! thanks for you advice again !!
