hey guys,

I use Maya 6.0.1. I have an object with maya layered shader. I try to break light -linking with this object and a spot light and render it with mental ray(I didn't open GI or FG..),but it doesn't work. The object didn't receive the light, which is right, but it still cast shadows. I think it's the problem about layered shader because it works on other shaders(like blinn, phone, lambert..). Can someone tell me how to fix this problem??I will really apperciate that~Thanks you so much!!

mental ray does not respect light linking in maya 6. (not sure about 6.5 or 7)... if you write a custom light shader to handle light linking.. you can do that.. otherwise.. the answer is... no.

Its the same problem with 6.5... If you try to unlink the light, it will no longer light the object, but it will still cast a shadow...

I can't believe that something this simple wouldn't work properly... How can you work around it without getting technical...

Yes this is a big problem I still can't get over with, another odd thing is if you turn off the light illumination, mental ray will will only shade specular highlights on your objects, so this is kind of a bug-trick if you use to use light linking for adding specular to your objects without affecting other objects.
