Ok, as if i don't have enough to do already this month, i feel like taking part in this challenge--seeing how it's the first animation challenge on cgtalk.

Hopefully I'll do a little bit better at getting it finished than i did the last two challenges i participated in.

I'll get storyboards up soon. But here's an image to help out in the mean time. It's only one of two characters in an office environment (well, office restrooms). Critiques on the pose would be greeeaaaat...yeah, thaaanks.

Looking great!..love the idea of a Tie...a good extra element to be able to animate.

Is he one of thoise Stuffy management types?

Actually, he's one of the stuffy lackey's...one of those guys who's always trying his hardest, but can never really make it anywhere. He knows everyone...but they're always kind of trying to pretend that they don't know him. He's just the really bubbly annoying type. Kinda like Chris Katan ;)

I've gotten the first few seconds of one of my characters...so it's time for an update, eh?

Just out of curiosity...is this what a lot of people do for animatics? I've seen it used around here for this challenge, so i decided I'd give it a try. I've never really been taught character animation. I'd usually concentrate more on the story than the quality of the animation, so the animation would usually be a lot blockier just to get the major hits. Not to mention, all of my animations so far have been 1 minute or longer, and I only spend about 1-2 sleepless weeks doing the animation for them. So this whole 15-second length and concentration on character animation thing is kind of new to me.

A little more done on the project so far.

I'd really like some feedback if y'all could spare some...the quality of the whole animation is kinda resting on these keyframes. So if i don't get these right the entire thing isn't going to look right. So, please...rip it to shreds (but be gentle, it's my first time:p ).

Hey,
I think its coming along well. I really like the camera angle that you chose, it makes the big guy look huge and very awkward. The blocking reads but obviously, the refinement stage of this is where you create good animation.
I looked at this and immediately thought that it could do with some camera shake. But, of course you can't move the camera. But then I thought, hey, there's nothing stopping you moving the whole scene.

Hey there, it's looking good.
Just before the skinny guy opens the door to go into the stall, he should stop, look up briefly at the big guy off screen, hold, and then quickly enter the stall just before the big guy enters from stage right (screen left). That'll quickly help establish a moment of tension and imply a relationship between the two characters.

Make sure that there is a difference in the way they both perform similar tasks. Obviously there's a difference in the walk, but also consider how they open the stall doors. Skinny guy opens the door just wide enough to let himself in, slides in and quickly closes the door, whereas the big guy would slam the door open, shaking all of the stalls in the process, takes his time squeezing his fat butt into the stalls and then maybe he will, maybe he won't close the door.

That's it. Can't wait to see an update.

hey its looking great!

think ACFred and srv have good points, i especially like the idea of the skinny bot looking nervous as he sees the big bot off screen... maybe the bigger guy should open the door by the top of the stall, would show his scale better maybe? while the skinny one gently uses the handle?

EDIT-sorry just read the rules again, shame you cant add textures, would be cool for more detail tho

[SRV] - yeah, camera shake would be awesome...i'll definitely add that at the end...

[ACFred] - great idea on the pause...will do. Thanks also for the tip about characters...since i'm trying to make all the key poses look great...correct weight, etc. I often forget about the big picture--the character's personality. I just need a little reminder like that every once in a while...so, thanks very much. Originally, I wanted the two characters to be familiar with each other...so the little guy wouldn't be so scared of the big guy's size or anything, but i'm thinking now that having him be scared of him would definitely be more funny. My first scenario would work better if people knew more about them, i guess, but for this competition's sake your suggestion works much better.

[cuse] - I thought the exact same thing when i read ACFred's comments too...i'll probably have him open the stall door from the top instead of the handle.

I'll try to get another update a.s.a.p....i'm running out of time on this thing...

Something I thought would help the gag is making the fat guy's belly about twice the size around it is now. I like the other suggestions as well.

hehehe...still laughin'. i think your finished product will be great. especially with these great suggestions you are getting. now, im not sure about the camera angle, i like it lower [it does help exagerate the big guy], but i think it ought to be a little more off set. perhaps more over to the said of the big guy's stall kinda lookin' in at an angle. maybe? otherwise i think you are on to a great little entry.
