View Full Version : What format/codec for best size/compression?
SPruss 09-21-2005, 06:26 PM I'm making a new showreel, and I'm having trouble getting it down into a reasonable size! Any suggestions of what formats/codecs to use?

Xvid... (think Divx - but without the legal complications...)

for general use and compatibility, windows media video (.wmv) makes the smallest file sizes and offers good quality. The only downside is they cant get played on macs. With Xvid though, most people wouldnt have the codecs and it can be a hassle downloading codecs.

I definietly want everyone to be able to see it, also people on Mac and Linux! is mpg the only format that is viewable by all systems, and without having to download codecs?
Also what mpg format i best to use?

I'm using Quicktime Pro export function to compress my reel into reasonable size... quality is not too bad. Any other better compression methods?
