View Full Version : Locking an object in diagonal direction
manlio 09-20-2005, 04:05 PM Is there a way to fix a object in diagonal direction? (p.e. an engine piston). Other times I have used some xpresso for vertical position then hided the original and created an instance rotated like I wanted, but in my latest anim I need a different approach. For example using xpresso if I lock the y Local position the script doesn't take count of the orientation and the object behaves exactly like I was using Global coordinates (if this is true Local coordinates are quite limited). I hope the problem is quite clear. Any suggestions? Thanks

It's not clear to me.

Howdy,
To do that you need to put it under a null object parent and rotate the parent to the diagonal orientation.

Thanks Cactus and thanks Adamt! Sorry if my explanation wasn't clear but I wrote it very quickly. Hey Cactus, I know the solution was in front of me, but I couldn't find by myself.
Works perfectly, thanks!

Howdy,
You're welcome.
Hey, sometimes I sit and stare at something all day and can't find anything wrong, and then someone who knows absolutly nothing about 3D comes along and says, "Why can't you just do it like this?" and then it's, "DOH!" :D
Adios,

In my case, "someone" was a guy that knows a lot about 3D! ;)
