View Full Version : bent_normals What for?
Hello all;
Do you know how to use amb_bent_normals to achieve a "normal" shader?
I mean, to use a file texture to light an object but without GI or FG, just normal map lighting, like Dirtmap.
Thankīs in advance.

It can be used for lighting your sceen inn post.
i think if you just change the hue of the bentnormal you can rotate the lights inn the sceen.
But you are able to do much more than that if you have the right tools for your compositing software.
According to things a read, you are able to place directlights inn the sceen, and if you use it with some kind distance pass you can use just about any kind of lights :)
I love to discus this a bit more inn details!
Does anyone know a script for fussion?

Mmmm, I think I didnīt make myself understood...
I donīt want the bent normals pass, I want a texture to light a surface with that normals information.
If you use Dirtmap, it has a feature I like a lot, it takes a picture and lights the dirtmap with it, but it takes so long to render (to much I think), there must be a node to do this faster, and I thought it was the new node amb_bent_normals (or something like that), because it lets you choose an environment texture to act as a light.
Do you know something about this?
And sorry for my english.

oh, sorry.
just set the mode to 2 or 3
2 is camera space i think
3 is world space
not sure if it's anyfaster, but try a low value on the max_distance
btw. do you know anything about compositing the bentnormal?
Iīll try again.
I donīt know much about compositing, thatīs not my job, but I think you use each normal color as an alpha channel for the effect you want to add, so it appears only when each color appear (or I think so...)
