Greetings,
Being ambitious on this challenge I decided to enter both 3D and 2D. As with my 3D entry I came up with this concept late at night when coming back from vacation and just sketched it out on a post-it note. Then the next morning I went and did a full concept sketch for the entry. Good luck everybody. :)

Greetings everybody,
I have had the line art done now for a little while but didn't have a chance to clean it up. A little background story. The deep sea diver has just discovered Atlantis the lost city. Unfortunately the sharks have just discovered him. As I said a little background story. ;) More updates in the works. :)
Matt
Welcome, and good luck for the Challenge.
I love your concept, by the way. Excellent composition and idea.

Greetings,
Well I have found some time to slip some painting in over the weekend. I will be doing most of the painting in greyscale and then when it is closer to being finalized I will go over and add the color. I have been using this method for a little while now and have really gotten spoiled. :P
Matt
I do like this very much. I love the story inthe image and the lighting you have achieved in the greyscale is really good too and brings a lot of life to the image.
For some reason I thought the bubbles in the sketch were actually a pile of treasure that the diver was going for...focussed on the treasure and not seeing the huge shark until the last moment. HAHAhahha... oops. I like the bubbles though :)
Looking forward to seeing more!

Hi Lync, thanks you very much for the kind words! The bubbles are actually going to be Atlantis when they are further along. I want Atlantis to look more organic and living as opposed to highly advanced (which is what I was first thinking of doing). :D

Greetings,
Another small update. I have worked more on adding detail to Atlantis in addition to cleaning up the rest of the image (at least, here and there). ;)

wonderful idea, and skills. one thing i found myself thinking while first viewing your image is the fact its not quite once in a lifetime. it could happen over and over again. of course most stuff we could think about can happen more than once. one thing i think might help your idea is maybe having the air cord (don't know what they're called) in the sharks mouth, then going up to the boat. doing this would give to the idea that he's about to die ^__^. and it also makes it slightly more "spectacular".
I love the new detail and I do like the idea of Atlantis. It definitely is a once in a life time event for the diver! I know if I ever saw a shark that big I wouldn't want to go visit it again (if I survived of course). HA!
I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the colour! :)

Hey there Sarah, thank you very much! Hey that is a cool idea, thanks alot for sharing. I'll try it out for sure, I'm also still going to fix some things about the composition to make it look more pleasing and guide the eye better.
Hey again Lynda, thank you very much for your continued support and feedback! Yeah, I didn't have alot of time to work on this entry, and when I had some time I mostly worked on the 3D one, so unfortunately there is no color version yet. I definitely intend to post an update some time soon though.
Thank you very much again! :)

Greetings once again,
Well I had a little time this morning and afternoon to work on the image and I thought that I would upload an update before I head off to bed. There is still no color, or at least color that I want to show at this point, but I did play around with the placement of some of the elements. I feel that it is now compositionally more pleasing to look at. :)

Greetings,
Well here is another one and still not finished yet and only 13 days left. I still need to find time to tighten up the image and add some other details.
bakanekonei: I tried your idea with adding the air hose into the sharks mouth but I thought it felt too busy. I ended up adding the remora to the sharks side instead. :)

Well the challenge will be over soon I guess that I should be getting close to finishing off the image. I decided to go over and change quite a few things since the last update. The angler fish in the background is now gone. Since it really didn't work in the image and I felt that it was working against the feeling that everything is being dragged down. Also I am still contemplating wether to keep the tiny one in the left-hand corner. Thus the reason that it isn't really painted in yet. I also added the mountain/stone formations in the background as-well-as the tiny little sea cars zipping about Atlantis. Hopefully I will be submitting my final image in the next couple of days. Till then. :)

Greetings,
With the challange extended another day I might hold off of submitting my final image until tomorrow when I have had another look at my entry. This evening, actually late this evening I went back over and touched some things up on the painting and changed a few things around that I wasn't happy with. :P The major change would be the colors and lighting, I toned both down quite a bit to try and give a better underwater feel. :)

Great coloring! And I love the pose on the diver: Can't see his face at all, but it's unnecessary because his pose totally reads. Good luck, don't know what else you need to do aside from upload!

Hey there Mike, thank you very much for dropping by my thread! I'm very happy to hear that you think so. :D Yeah, I thought about showing his face in the glass toward the beginning. I also thought of having the shark reflected in the glass of the diver's helmet and the diver in the eye of the shark but thought that might be too redundant. Thanks again! :D
Matt
Hey, this is great! I love the changes you have made. It is looking a lot more polished now. The colours are working well. Great work. :)

"Guillaume Humperdink Missing!
The deep sea pioneer Guillaume Humperdink has been declared missing since yesterday evening when he failed to return from a brief excursion on his science vessel "Atalante". Authorities have ruled out homicide; all crew and sea life at the scene have been released from custody.
According to his crew Humperdink left the port of Ceuta yesterday morning believing he had uncovered vital information in his search for the lost city of Atlantis. Critics claim that Humperdink's research was based on mythology rather than being grounded in actual archaeology.
Humperdink's disappearance has come as a major blow for his proponents."
