I don't know whether this is the correct section to post this.
Anway, i'm wondering how people go about skinning dragon wings, bats wings etc.
And is the wings the same element as the body mesh or is it a different object?
Any ideas anyone?

Howdy,

Well, depending on what software you're using, you could make just the wing membrane a separate object and use a cloth simulator on it.

Here's an example of one that I did in Cinema 4D using the cloth simulator:

The wing's fingers are rigged with a Spline IK. Then there was a frame delay setup added to the spline's control objects, so that they flexed as the wing controller was animated.

Wow Thanks alot,that's a nice animation.=D
Well..i'm using 3dsmax...
Oh yeah, how did you get the membrane to fit so nicely?
is it cutting through the wing mesh?
mine is cutting through....so..i'm wondering if i should use reactor....=E

Howdy,

Yeah, I have the wing membrane cutting through the fingers of the wing mesh. In Cinema 4D, the cloth's attributes has a scale parameter which when set lower than 100% starts to take on a stretchy behavior. I also gave it a little bit of drag, so that it looks like it's being affected by the air. If you have those parameters in 3DS Max, you should be able to achieve the same result.

Oh, thanks alot man.=D
i found a way to make the membrane fit nicely to the fingers of the wing
but it's abit messy as it follows the outline of the wing mesh...
thus resulting in some unecessary vertex.=(
think i better make it cut thru the wing mesh.
