View Full Version : Vue 5 Infinite Renders
Solomon 09-19-2005, 04:25 PM Hi guys,
I am new to VI - but I am already liking the render qualities - I own Bryce 5.5, I have been looking for an alternative - I think Vue Infinite is it.

Solomon,
Very nice image. I like wildlife and your image is very appealing. Are those bushes from Vue Infnite. I am also considering buying it. I currently own Vue 5, but it doesn't support ecosystems.
PS - Your train animation on your site is wonderful. Keep up the good work!

Pretty nice first start, Solomon.
I too like nature type scenes.
And you didn't screw it up by putting in other objects that have nothing to do with the scene,
except to just have objects in there for the sake of having more objects like a lot of people do.
For your first test, it turned out fairly decent.
I also went to check out the train, since I read what Paint Guy said about it,
but I wasn't able to view any animations. What's the scoop on them?
I have the latest QT and DivX and whatever else I can think of installed on my system.
I was able to see the stills, but I'm an animator and LOVE to see animations :)
You're making me want to finish working on my own steam train engine and train scene.

But, I've been too busy playing with Vue lately, so I don't know for sure
when I can get back to finishing up the engine?
But I will get to it :)
My whole goal is to recreate part of the Anza Borrego Desert where
the old steam trains used to run through the Carriso Gorge area.

thanks guys,
I like nature and wild life. I am from Africa, so that should shed some light.
mdunakin, if you click on the animation link at the top of the homepage, a page with animations will come up - click on the "More info" link to load the animation - the clips were exported from Flash - so you do need the flash player to view the animations.
The larger file (compressed 7 MB, 15fps) can be found here - Download - 720 x 480 (http://www.sowl.com/albums/mayaproject/abp.mov)
I created the animation with Maya - it was for a class project at George Mason University - Art and Visual Technology Program - that was my first serious use of Maya. I had fun with it.
Now, what's interesting is that when I learnt about Vue Infinite, I wondered whether I would be able to get better landscape backgrounds for that animation, since I wasn't too happy with the terrain.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way of importing Maya files into Vue without losing the source information - I used Mel programming for the wheels of the train.
I think at best - I can get a good still render of the train scene.
I am waiting for my copy on thursday to see how that works out. I was using a trial version - but it ran out 2 days ago.

Paint Guy (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=121277), yes the bushes are from VI - I combined 2 materials and an ecosystem.

OK, this time I was able to see the animation :)
Pretty cool and pretty fun!
I liked the song that went along with it.
I'll check into the whole flash bit, as I still haven't quite finished all
the installing of things onto this new system.
As for your combining your Maya stuff with Vue, you may end up having to do what I'll be
doing with some things later down the road, and that is to use masking and compositing of the two.
And I just ordered my LW/Vue Pre-Order today, so in a few days, I'll have another vue sitting here LOL
They said I could sell it off if I want to, so I'll see what I want to do when I get it?
.................md :)
Right now I'm enjoying watching and listening to lightning and thunder and rain.
Great change of weather for once :)

HA,

Awesome!
I should be getting my "second" Vue5I by Monday, as it comes with the Pre-Order of LW9.
I'm busy putting this tutorial together, but ran into some issues with my site setup nonsense,
as I didn't set things up yet on my new computer and am having to get all that back up
and running the way it was before, but things are now going smoothly.
Taking breaks frequently, so I don't ruin my neck too fast LOL

Pretty nice.
What I want to know is, how did you get the water to bend/warp that way around the snake?
And which texture did you use for that old branch, or did you modify that one yourself?
Cuz it looks great for old branch wood.
thanx..........md :)

Solomon, great job! You might want to keep your eye out for Vue xFusion, which should be out later this fall for Max and Maya integration with Vue 5 Infinite. Here's a link:

thanks guys.
I used a modified rock material for the dead tree. and the water materal is the Tropical Water.
I used a procedural terrain to make the water. I didn't use the infinite water plane.
The snake model was created and posed with zspheres in Zbrush 2 - I love that program!! feels like I am working with clay.
I highly recommend it for all terrain builders. Great for adding detail to terrains.
That's what I used to make the water wakes.

The water and dead branch caught my eye, too.
Good work, Solomon. You're learning fast!

Your new scenes are looking pretty good too.
I do feel though that the overall dirt/sand is a tad bit too smooooth.
Needs more roughness, and in a smaller scale I mean, to the ground material.
BTW, you never mentioned how you got the water to work for the snake object?
I mean, what did you do in Vue to make it look like the water was being pushed by the snake?
Thanx and keep posting................md :)

I can't believe they shut down my terrorist base thread -
I am still speechless.
There was nothing political about - alot of games do FMV similar to that and it's done in a tasty way -
did you guys find it offensive?

hi mdunakin,
I woke up this morning and found my terrorist base thread closed and a message you posted deleted - what did you guys write that caused the the administrator to close it?
send me a PM or email
Sincerely

It's a shame.. I wanted to see it. Hopefully you can post it again, as you aren't breaking any rules by posting such an animation. I've seen more controversial stuff on this site.

it's a shame indeed.
looks like she has forbidden me to post it again.
I respect other people's opinions - but I am wondering why someone had to politicise my thread when I was looking for constructive criticism - I didn't even say wwho was attacking the base - there is no one getting shot - it's just a flyby
and now they have closed it down and forbade me from posting again.
Where is the freedom of expression in that - it's an art forum and I
posted an art piece of a landscape and base - it's not a political forum.
I am still speechless.

Talk to Leigh. I think the thread was closed because of someone else, not necessarily the animation you created. Again, there have been other things posted on CGTalk which are more controversial than what you posted. It's when people get up on their soapbox and preach is when it becomes a problem. We can talk to other mods if we need to to make sure the animation can be posted here.

Art = emotions
they stick together like superglue. So you can kind of expect reactions to a "controversal" topic. :) I donīt really understand the harsh closing of the thread either. A polite hint to the forum policy would have done it too.
Anyway, this is still no political forum and letīs get back to the topic. If you have questions concerning the thread closing, talk to the moderator, Leigh in this case.
Nice renders though. The sky however could be improved. It kinda breaks the quality of the scene.
Best
