Where do you access your auto backup preferences and what folder does Maya auto backup to???

I have just lost an hours work and don't feel like remodelling a glove.

Help ASAP.

Thanks,

Only auto backup is in your head, just remember to save frequently. Only excuse for not saving things frequently is inexperiance. As far as I know there is no auto backup feature in maya, (maybe in 4.5, haven't chenked for that feature). If maya crashes, it tries to save the scene, but 9 time out of 10, there are things missing from it.

If that fails, there is a script on Highend3d that will auto-matically backup every few minutes to your scenes directory.
called autosave1.0

Actually I got caught up in giving my buddy a little demo. The excitement just overwhelmed me and before I knew it I opened up another scene without saving my changes. Coulda happened to anyone. Too bad I didn't demo the fantastic save feature as well. :(

Anyway lets dispense with the sarcy remarks shall we....

No sarcasm my friend, just saying it how it is.

So many times I have seen people whine, cry, complain, and even lose there jobs (or if not jobs, many hours sleep), over just being forgetful and not saving things when it just a simple matter of making it a routine. Computers crash, Power outages happen, human error happens, it happens to everyone, that's why you can easily avoid it from happening.

Mr Fudge,

I totally understand. We are human and are not perfect. I know I need this kind of help. Nothing on the computer can be relied upon. Maya crashes etc.

I posted this thread earlier. And I found a good script on Highend.

Check out this thread:

It really helps.

To be honest on the rare occasion that my Maya does crash I have always found the file that it makes just before it does is always intact. I can never remember where it puts them though. Thought maybe there was an incremental auto backup of the most recent file lurking in the same folder somewhere. Just a thought. Can’t say this has happened to me very often before.
