I'm learning 3D modeling and this is my first serious work.

Very nice!
The textures look great.

The only thing I see is that the lighting is to bright.
That shine is overpowering the textures.

Other than that, looks Awesome!

Hi !

I like it too. I'm making a violin too :) if you want to see it : My violin thread (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2601)

I like the overall aspect of it. Maybe i can give you some advice because i know well those instruments (i'm a cello player).

- The first thing i'd say that your textures are too shiny. That's why your highlights are so wide and white. You should use specularity maps, and reflection maps too, because a violin reflects well what surrounds it.

- i'd say too that the neck is not round enough (seen on the last picture, at the bottom left)

- the bow looks to be too long, or maybe too thin. The "horse hair" should be 1 cm wide (1/2.55 inche)

- the head should be a little less smoothed, especially the part between the exterior part of it, and the hollow part inside.

Well i think it's all for now :)

Nice model, keep going and improve it !

All the people say me the same thing. I'll work on int. ;)

Is it rounder? Tks. I have not a violin, and my reference pictures do not show perspective. Only back and front views. And no close-ups of the neck

Again, my reference pics are so poor. I didn't see any picture of a violin side by side with the bow. And I don't know the correct proportion. Have u some pic?

Can u be more explicit? :(

Well, i use my sister's violin to model it. It is so good to have what you model in front of your eyes !

I'll upload you some pictures if you want, taken in different angles.

But i can already put this : (i hope this helps) (and i'll post you home made pictures of my violin)

Size : 1,47 Mo

Violin Pictures zipped file - hosted on my web site - (http://tartopoms.free.fr/divers/images/violin_ref.zip)

I hope this will be very usefull for you. See you soon when i add my violin pics !

The updated image you posted looks awesome as the textures are visible and very alive.

Great job

Yes it's a very good picture. But i'd have loved to have found it much bigger :)

By the way, this is not CG ! This is a real photograph

lol ohh sorry then :) I misunderstand.

Well, personnally i don't find those textures really realistic. The wood structure of a violin is much more tiny, and you should not have so much different colours. The material should be more reflective (as you can see on the picture i put just above on the side view (you see those white zones on the front and back side ?))

Anyway, i'm impatient to see more ! Keep going thewheels !

Thanks, toma

Your references are very good!
But at this time I've decide to pay my attention to modeling (In fact, I'm working in other model - a robot).

The violin model looks enough for me by now. But someday I'll work on it again, to improve the textures and illumination (that, in my opinion, are more hard to do than modeling).

When you finish your violin, post a message to me!

Regards

I think the first batch of pictures up there were not too shiney... it just looked well polished.

nice work, I'm dumbfounded how you did the head, amazing.
