It's late, I just wanted to post a scribble of my character.
Being a mover is never easy...it's back breaking work! It's even more difficult when you are a magnet...with no arms.
I'll post a storyboard soon.

I've replaced the animatic since I've had to make some drastic changes to my clip. Building a character rig from scratch has seriously taken up most of this month. Since I originally had 4 characters in my scene...I was never going to get around to actually animating.
I am excited to try these animation challenges, but honestly, because of all of the restrictive rules, this may be my last challenge here. I prefer the Ten Second Clubs open rules, to the restrictive ones here. And I enjoy lipsyncing...to each his own.

This is a simple playblast, and not complete (one character is not even moving hehe). But I can still use a lot of suggestions.

A bit of a test to see how my rendering settings looked, and how a non-playblast would look.
Please critic away. I actually kinda hate it, and its been a chore, but I've been trying to get better at FINISHING things so I'll press on. You know how that it. Even though I am not happy with it, I'd like to find some more time to make it at least presentable. Clean up those feet, and maybe animating the shadows would be a good thing 8^)

FUNNY animation!!! love it! my only problem with it is that after the first nail, the main character gets teh 2nd nail too fast and it's sort of distracting to his pause i think... but other wise it's great!!! what type of lighting are you using? it looks like GI, what GI method are you using? oh yeah you are using maya right? i've been messing around with GI and the way i'm using now (from a tutorial) takes damn long to render.. so i'm trying to find the best solution...

Funny characters, I like em'! I thnk the magnet's walk is too slow and I'd expect him to have more of a penguin type waddle. I also wasn't too clear on what is going on as far as the gag goes. The white character seems pretty casual and sure about sticking the nail to the magnet the first time, but the second time he seems surprised and suddenly struggles against it. Or at least that's pretty much how it looks. I can see surprise in his eyes but not the rest of his body when the first nail goes flying. There is also no movement in his torso and legs as he moves the nails accross his body. The action of the second nail hitting the magnet and causing the fall could use some snap as well.

I appreciate your feedback, and agree with it as well. It's not a good thing when you feel the need to explain the gag.
The gag was, a row of people, fire bucket style, moving a bunch of nails. Only magnetboy is not too helpful in the situation...since he is magnetic. the first nail was supposed to be a handoff, and the character was supposed to be suprised when the nail gets ripped out of his hand. The second nail, he is just testing the magnetism, when it pulls a bit harder than he was expecting.
My main problem was WAY overthinking the short 15 second piece. I originally had 4 people in the scene, and had to cut two characters because of a lack of time. I am not a rigger, so I lost a LOT of time in the month learning how to build a rig. Four rigs actually. I also had a third nail, but that was cut as well.
I don't like all the rules and requirements for the cgchallenge.com, so I doubt I'll be entering again. but you can be sure my 10secondsclub entries will be MUCH simplier because of what I've learned here.
