Title: Mediterran Restaurant
Name: Daniel Mueri
Country: Switzerland
Software: CINEMA 4D, Photoshop
This is a restaurant scene I did for a little contest. I did it out of my mind. And it was the first time I made an interior.
Here (http://daniel.mueri.net/gallery/Restaurant/) you can see the WIP's.
Two objects of this scene are also taken by Maxon to put it on the Goodies-CD of the new Cinema Version 9.5:

Nice atmosphere!
are you going to put up any wireframe shots?
Absolutely gorgeous work. My only crit would be that everything looks so real, it makes the curtains stand out as being 3D. They seem to buldge or gain volume about half way down which looks un-natural.
I loved the WIPS and thought that the shot with both pillars from the back of the room looked like a really interesting POV as well. Love to see a big render from there too.
How long did it take you to model and texture all of this? Your materials are beautiful:applause:
I was going to ask "what's on the menu?" but I see there's one sitting on the table!

it's a fantastic work. how much time to render for it?

excellent render man. I like your color choices and camera angle too. Its not just another boring arch viz render.

nice and clean render.. the only thing i would like to nitpick is the dof blur.. the lens used is a wide lens so it's not supposed to create that kind of heavy blur..

I agree with Ryusen.. the single renders are very nice but the depth of field of the full image isn't working. Everything else is spot on, nice job.

Thank you very much @ all
@Roux: Thank you for your crit. Yes I had many problems with the certain, and the was running out, so I had to let them as they are.
For the whole picture I had about 48 hours without renderning. In this time I've learned also how to use multilayer for Postwork.
Also a problem was my maschine I was rendering at. I couldn't run it longer than 15 hours. So I had to choose very little quality at radiosity and reflections and so on. And also I havn't got any bigger Rendering.
@vantage:It took me 15 hours to render it on a resolution of 1100 * 900.
I've chosen this sort of "unreal" DOF, because it gives it a better atmosphere than without or less strong blur. That's my opinion of corse.

Hi Roady! Congrats to the frontpage, you deserve it. Great picture again as always. I especially like the unusual presentation of the work. It is very seldom that someone posts his materials. Although you cannot read much fom them you get the attention to detail you payed (eiswürfel for example). Done nicely!

Great piece. Nice to see some work with C4D out there. One question if you had to do this for a client and they needed a piece for print at 8x10 300dpi. Could you have done it within a reasonable time frame?
Roadrunner4D
09-18-2005, 10:18 AM
For a client, that would be something else. Then it would be more important for me and I would let the PC run for some days to render. But here it was for a contest and it wasn't that important to get a high resolution picture.

Definitely 5 stars !
Incredible how some people really can bring their mind's eye to life for everyone to see it !
Truely a great piece of work.
Only suggestion I have for improvement is the column, it looks a bit flat, you can try to find a better texture and/or add details to it.
Great work.

This is a fine example for what I´m always saying about good 3D interiors: yeah, okay, the DOF may not be 100% realistic, yeah, some details look 3Dish, but hell, the atmosphere just kicks, so who cares!!
I love this piece, it´s so moody and has such a good eye for detail, I would really like to see more of this "yep, not a 1000% perfect but lots of heart and sense for ambiance in it"-kind of stuff...
Just great!

My opinion is highly tainted by a dislike of interiors, all the possibly brilliant ideas are smothered in a dull image that looks like it is from a brochure ;-) I like the lighting; the difference between hard and soft lighting in one image is quite appealing.
I agree on the DOF
The center pillar looks very flat, in the untextured version I was amazed to see it was 3D
The tilted camera looks out of place, it doesn't fit in this kind of image.
Why is there an empty space behind the pillar? Is it a dancefloor? Shouldn't it be lit accordingly?
Oh, and congratulations on the front page!

You say that it was not a very important picture, how much time did you invest making it? I mean time of your work of course, not rendertime. Five Stars For me

Very nice indeed! I dont understand the blur on the left. It is sharp then blurry, then the chair further back is sharp again. Very well modelled and textured though.
