View Full Version : Character - Girl - finished
Nightwing 11-08-2002, 05:40 AM OK it's just the head, I'm calling it finished it because I'll need time to work on the challenge for the next few weeks.
Made loads of mistakes, probably tons of things I could (and should) fix, but it was my first try at a human head....next one I hope will be lots better :D
Modelled in Max 4.2, textures in photoshop.

Hey Nightwing, I think fo rthis being your first human head you should be very proud of the finished product.
There really aren't lots of major problems that you may think. The only two very small things that I see wrong, most people wouldnt even take the time to point them out. But I will, to help you in your future models.
The first thing is the upper eyelid. At the corner where it meets the lower eyelid, it should actually fold over the lower lid.
And the second thing is the actual construction of the lips. The bottom lip is made up of two halves, and the upper lip is actually made up of three seperate parts. Normally you wont even notice a thing like that (I only know it form going to art school). So I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. You did a great job, pat yourelf on the back, and Ill give you a couple of these :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

I'm posting stuff to learn, so Thanks very much for the feedback
Your points are very informative, and I will certainly bear that in mind if and when I attempt something like this again.
I'm happy with how she turned out, considering what a steep curve it was for me

Great work on the head, especially for your first model. Both the modelling and the texuring have been very well done. The colour of the ear looks a little odd and 'plastic' and the expression on the face is very static (unless it is set for facial morphing).
Great work, I'll look forward to seeing more.

Hi, thanks for the positive feedback :D
About the expression, yes I planned to (and started) rigging her for some morphs, still might complete the inside of her mouth and see how it goes....
I just needed to work on something different because I was stagnating a bit, having spent about a month's worth of spare time on her :)

Looks great, especially for a first attempt. I've only got a couple of small crits:
Her cheekbone is a little bit of a funny shape, just seems a bit low, and like it needs to be a bit fuller.
Obviously her hair needs a bit more work, higher-res textures for a start, and maybe you should model it in several pieces?
Love the shader on the face, I agree that the ear looks a bit plasticky, but the skin is lovely

Cheers for the comments
Couple of people have pointed out the "plasticity" of the ear. If and when I try setup some expressions for her at a later stage I'll definitely address that. Glad you like the texturing, I was happy with how it turned out, and wasn't as much of a pain as I had anticipated!
The hair...yeah that'll teach me to draw low-res textures :)
