View Full Version : Need help
Peridious 09-15-2005, 10:59 PM Hey,
I have a video clip from the video game Halo 2. I have the clip and its masterchief walking towards the screen. Now how would i take out the background and make it white so all you can see is masterchief with just the white background around him. I'm really new to this so if you can help me out that would be great. Thanks.

Unless you're really lucky and have a background of a solid, even colour, you're in for a lot of work.
Pen tool around Master Chief, then roll out the parameters for the mask and hit the mask shape stopwatch. Then advance through the frames, adjusting the mask each time.
Then put a white layer behind the Halo footage.
Lightwrapping is probably not a bad idea either.
Hope that helps!

That's a lot of floating mask points... I would try to chroma key the background, but if you do have to resort to the masking mentioned above, be sure to switch the Open GL image mapping to Off, composition resolution at 50%, and limit the workspace; otherwise, your computer will be pin-wheeling if not stalled for long periods of time once you get the mask shape keyframes per frame of everyframe... even with a G5 or a sup'ed up PC. Best of luck!

Try using vector paint and matt it, is quite similar with muilt masking, it will work faster with a wacom, if u have one. Try go to creativecow.com and look for rotoscope tutorial. But I still feel muilt masking is better cos of the control for the sharpe edge but very time consuming.
