View Full Version : creating ice
iatepaste 11-08-2002, 01:39 AM Anyone have any good links on surfacing, etc. for ice? I tried putting in ice in the search engine but it seems you need 4+ letter words or it won't search for it. Shame.
Thanks,
/devin
PS - I'm specifically looking to create something like an icecube or block of ice.

Use " ice* " in the searchengine. :)

I imagine its a fairly complex texture, may I recommend posting this in the texturing forum aswell (mentioning that you use lightwave).
From my guesses it would be just the normal water texture but with a crumple/turbulent bump/transparency map.

You could download the scene from the Jack Daniels tutorial, that has a glass of whisky with ice cubes in it. You might be able to copy the surface from that.

I actually have done a little bit for making ice. I don't know how realistic or how you are using the ice but i'm fairly happy with what i have so far.

If you would like I could tell you my surface settings and all that good stuff.
Well, maybe it is not the most beautiful ice surface in the world, but i had this file here in the surfaces folder... so ... here is the zipped SRF file (http://www.teamtronic.it/staff/ditimoteo/ice.zip).
