View Full Version : Edge Filter???

Anyone know if there's a filter for Photoshop (or any other program for that matter) that will take the pixels at the edges of my UVs and pull them out to create a filtering-fix border?

Hard to describe... sometimes I get artifacts, due to hardware texture filtering, where the edges of UVs pick up some color from just outside the UV edge within the bitmap. Typical filtering issue.

Here's an example of what I'm looking for.... this was done with a texture baking tool, which can optionally add this edge filter. But I want to find a filter that will work in Photoshop, and on single layers... Anyone seen something like this?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, however if it is what i think it is, then you need to familiarize yourself with the clone tool,

Thanks for the reply.

Not the clone tool, that would be all manual. I'm looking for an automated filter.

Basically it should take a one-pixel border around the edges of the layer's alpha, then stretch those pixels out from the center of each "island" of alpha, making each "island" wider all around, but only using the pixel colors from the edge of the "island."

In my test image, there are three "islands" defined by the alpha. In the left image you can see a 5-pixel stretch of the edge pixel color.

Anyhow, this is to help hide any texture-filtering errors in the render, where pixels at the edge of the islands are combined with those outside the island, when the texture is rendered on a 3D object.

I just wish there was a Photoshop filter for this.
