im making static meshes for the gameut24k.
at the moment im trying to put a bitmap onto a model impoted into 3ds.
heres how i would do it to a model made in 3ds
////////////////
create a box

open materials
drag a colour over the object

in the diffuse click on icon

this brings up material editor
click bitmap and find the one you want.

then click on checker board this makes it visible for the texture to show.
and the texture will show :)

heres how ive tried to do it with a model i import.
import new object, that has been done in another modeling program

object has many materials on it, it has been mapped out in another program.

open materials
click pick material dropper. click it on the object

it brings up multi sub object parameters

click on one of the materials, it opens its settings

in its defuse click on the icon

this brings up material editor
click bitmap and find the one you want.

then click on checker board this makes it visible for the texture to show.

but its not showing the proper texture its gone white not the bitmap.

why doesn't it show the bitmap?

As the model is already mapped and and the texture consists of many materials, maybe you are in the wrong material or map channel. Do you see the bitmap as it should be in the rendering?

its for a video game so i dont need a render as it will be imported out, but i tried a render and got this


missing map coordinace
the following objects require map coordinace and may not render corectly
(uvw1):cube1

then continue or cancel

if continue the render comes out without the texture just a grey texture in its place.

i just did a UV map, its shows now,

wow max is very clunky at textures, the modifier everytime you do something is very slow for working with.

i wonder if there is a little free app that is just for textures and is quicker than max, ive got 500 meshes to get through, its slow going with the way max does things.
