I would like to hear something about working with both, Maya Complete and Maya Unlimited, on a project pipeline. Are they working just fine together or is there some known problems?

For example:
-Does Maya Complete or its satelliterenderers render scenes made with Maya Unlimited? How about Hair and other effects?
-Is it possible to skin, animate, texture, add materials etc. in Maya Complete and after that move to Maya Unlimited with all these informations so that I could add some hair fx to the scene?
-Tell me also other known problems about moving from Complete to Unlimited and vice versa.
-If someone is working in a pipeline using both Maya Complete and Unlimited, tell me your experiences!

thanks!

We just use maya complete here. The most useful features though, tend to be avaialbe as plugins for much cheaper/better. I'd rather take joe alters than maya hair, same with I'd rather have syflex than maya cloth, or boujou than maya live. Even with all of these you still are coming well under the price difference between unlimited and complete.

They are both exactly the same, except that with Unlimited you can turn on the plugins for the additional features. Scenes saved with unlimited features will just tell you that they are disabled when you open them under complete. Unlimited features will render wherever because the render lics for maya are free and don't even peg your license server.

You mean that I could render Maya Unlimited Fur etc. with license of Maya Complete?

And one more question: Does the Mental Ray renderer differ from Maya Unlimited to Maya Complete or is it also the same?

You have to have a license for Unlimited to render fur/hair, fluids, cloth, etc.

From my understanding Mental Ray is exactly the same. However, I'm not sure if a couple of the shaders are included in Complete that relate to Hair/Fur.

I often hear that Syflex cloth is better than Maya's but when I played with Syflex it seemed that all the cloth came out "silky" where Maya cloth was a bit easier to get a more realistic look (although it seemed a tad harder to set up). I speak with very little cloth experience so I'm sure it's just me.

How does the new hair system in Maya 7 compare to Shave and a Haircut? The hair system seems pretty nice in 7 but heck, for the price, Joe Alters solution is enticing.

Yeah I'm interested in this as well as currently I have a student version of Unlimited I have another year after this that I can get the student version then I will have to buy the commercial version. Unlimited is about $11000 in Australia and Complete is $3500 and I don't think I am going to be able to afford Unlimited so I'm definately going to have to look at the plugins when the time arrives.

You have to have a license for Unlimited to render fur/hair, fluids, cloth, etc.No you don't. The commandline render doesn't even check your license(since maya 4.03), only the gui does.

How many rendering licenses is there available when i purchase a Maya Complete?
I heard that 2 satellite mental ray, is it correct? What about if I have 3 licenses of maya complete, can I run 6 satelliterenderers from a single computer? Or is it tied to only one complete license?

How about scanline? Can I install maya for every single computer I have just for rendering purpose, or is there some known limitations? Or should I buy for example 10 licenses of complete just for my renderfarm?

Hello,

If you have Maya Complete and the Syflex plug-in, is it possible to interact cloth simulations with Fluids?

thx
