View Full Version : Tweaking OBJ in other app after ZB
daytona 09-13-2005, 08:33 PM I've seen a tutorial(Gnomon anatomy) where an imported OBJ gets worked on in ZB, then after a quite a lot of work the lowest poly version is exported back into the original program (Maya) tweaked a bit (moving fingers and hand, no new polys or points). It is then reimported back into ZB and all the work is still there to see when you go up the levels.
The only problem is, I can't get it to work. Am I missing a trick? whenever I pull the tweaked OBJ back into ZB and hit 'D' the mesh just explodes.

The problem is probably that maya is reordering the vertex numbers. There is a setting in the obj export option that will prevent it from doing this. Sorry I can't recall what it is at the moment, I believe it was a setting about exporting groups though. The gnomon video you watched discusses this, is suggest watching that part again and see exactly which setting it is.
Sorry I can't be more help right now.

I think you are right. In Maya he changes the import OBJ options from true to false. However I'm using C4D and the only options in Prefs for Wavefront import is Scale (not relevant) or a checkbox next to 'import normals'. I've tried off and on, and neither stop the model exploding when reimporting to ZB
