Yeah, this is not just for Tablet PC owners either. It will work with any PC with a Wacom tablet.
Think of the song Goin' Mobile by The Who. SketchBook is a compact world class sketching tool (airbrushes, marker pens etc.) that is very fast, clean and super simple to use. Perfect for creating storyboard ideas, annotating images or drawing. With a Tablet PC you can now draw anywhere - from couch to commuter train. Or like I said - use it on any PC - but then you are tethered to your desk.
It is not just for artists - it is for anyone who likes to doodle or draw or mark up stuff.
Enjoy - there is a great free version

Alias has only mentioned Wacom..........but they have a free trial dl........get it and find out :)
I don't think AW is in trouble at all, just expanding their market.
Yet another paint tool from AW not much of one but I can use it as an XSI user unlike paintfx which I can only envy.

so. who makes those digi sketchbooks?
is it ms? or is it something like the pc..that a bunch of companies will sell..like dell..HP. etc.?
any idea how fast they will be? hardware specs? cost?
Looks like the one I saw that was showing off Sketchbook was a Compaq. It should work for any tablet, its a program for Windows Tablet PC, though they recommend Wacom, probably for other reasons than compatibility.
Most tablets are 2Gs and about 4lbs (running about PIII 900MHZ) right now and will probably stay like that for a year or so. Dell says they are holding off for 6-12 months before they start shipping tablets so they can see how the market accepts them. I personally think everyone is a looser who doesn't think tablets are cool and well worth it function wise. Cost wise I am not keen about, but its new tech... As far as I know, Compaq, Fujitsu, Wacom, Viewsonic, and some others all have tablets for sale.
I prefer the tablet over the hybrid (foldable keyboard) like Viewsonics or Fujitus.. I would get one just for Sketchbook alone, it would make my work so much more fluid to do it all digitally anywhere, anytime.. Someday they will become affordable, maybe even Star Trek sized..

Autodesk has something similar. Not perfect, but apparently more functionaility than Sketchbook Pro......

Thats such a cool concept. Does anyone know what the RRP is going to be?
Man.. all the more reason to get one.. grr..
I think Autodesks program is more for architectural rendering/collaboration. Sketchbook is just that, sketching and rendering. I'd take both though. :) I don't think its tablet only too.

You can download it and use it with a mouse. you dot get the pressure features but it works.
The amazing thing whit this app is how few features it has! it sort of serves its point, A sketch pad has to be fast but still, it looks more like a free app then a full commercial app.
I have my self been thinking about writing an app especially for Digital artists (mate painters, concept and texture artists)
I have some ideas, like being able to pick more then just colors, also things like brush, paint mode form the canvas. Any one have any paint needs?

i really hope the final ver is better than the demo, as it really doesnt have very much at all.......its like MSpaint for a tablet (cant even get it to work with pressure sensitivity and the eraser doesnt work...........would be alright for a quick sketch i guess, but ill stick with painter.

I wonder why this is Alias Sketchbook and not Alias|Wavefront Sketchbook. Is this a branding thing?

All these companies either have Tablet PCs for sale now or plan to release them sometime in the next year. They run anywhere from 1200 to a few thousand dollars. They use all the same technology as a notebook PC except they have presure sensitive screens. I think the current fastest tablet PC's are 800mhz.
