One simple sketch (of the scene) with a reference image of the Cathedral. In the background some apartment houses. The scene will be a cityscape.

Hey Vlad,
With the right viewing angle this will look great , the Cathedral will be fun to model , lots and lots of details . I thought of doing this as well, this will make for an impressive image , good luck.

thanks mmoir, the modelling is going to be fun, because there are only simple objects (except for the statues). It's gonna be easy, but there's a lot of work.

The first models from the Cathedral. Most objects made from extruded boxes.

Very slick modeling - when I'm doing such windows all I end up with is a bunch of splines shaped in an artistic manner - yours actually looks quite real :)
I can't imagine how much work this'll be - good luck!

Looks pretty darn cool! ;) Texturing would be a pain in the rear, can't wait to see how you manage it.
Apropo, mai umbli pe alte forumuri? E vreo sansa sa te cunosc de undeva?

More parts of the Cathedral. I tried to recreate them low-poly and realistic (compared to the references), but it seems I couldn't do such a good job (over 50 000 faces). Next I'll start working on the top part and begin modelling a character that I will use for the statues.

Thanks, but compared to the reference photos it's not so realistic :).

I'm not very good when it comes to the texturing part, so I'll just slap on a concrete bitmap, adjust it a bit and hope it will look good. However, if I have enough time I'll try to learn more about texturing.
Nu cred, pana acum am postat doar pe CGTalk :).
It took me a while for the previous update because I had some second thoughts about the subject, but after an extensive search for reference phots I think I can come up with a decent result within the deadline.
