View Full Version : Dandelion Animation

I want to start getting a reel together of some different type shots than to what I'm used to. One shot in particular I want to achieve, is to have a dandelion blowing in the wind as the camera pulls focus on it. Other grasses and stuff can be blowing in the background, but the main focus of the shot is the one dandelion. Then as it is blowing, the seeds start breaking off, but not all of them, and are blown away by the wind, but the camera follows them up into the sky. When the camera has been following the seeds for a while, it tilts down slowly, to reveal a flyover the suburbs. How would I go about achieving this kind of animation? Would I use particles, or hand animate the seeds? I really have no idea where to start. I'm guessing I'd uses the wind space warp, but don't know how to break certain seeds off at different times and have them be carried by the wind. Also how do you get the whole dandelion to blow in the wind? Ive made a wind spacewarp, and bound it to the dandelion model, but it doesnt move at all. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, even if its just putting me in the right direction as to what tools to use.
Thanks

Hi Metro,

I would probably use a particle system, in particular have a look at 'particle flow' and do the tutorials that ship with max, and check out information at Oleg's site:

good luck!
