View Full Version : Render farm constructor and config ??
seb-desmet 09-12-2005, 09:03 AM hi
I work in small 3d company and we would like to buy a render farm
does someone know a constructor who make this ?
and what is the best solution for small company ?
we don't search the more expensive hardware
just a good deal between quality and price...
normaly a rack with 5 or 10 cpu will be good
thanks a lot for answers

and from the VERY first page of the site linked:
Discover Qube!, the ultimate render farm management system for feature film and game production companies backed by a team of industry professionals.
Qube! is a production-proven software application used by some of the world's most renowned studios for speeding up the rendering process and managing distributed game builds.
Qube!'s unique combination of batch queuing, distributed processing and render farm management maximizes production throughput and accelerates your team's overall productivity, resulting in a better product.
I figure that says pretty much what thier software does.
+ the webpage does render in Opera correctly (the latest version).

well i find the site to be confusing..my opinion anyway.
1. does it replace Softimage's batch tool?
2. if yes how?

hello robb
if you're using any of the market's most popular 3d software packages, than you probuably don't need any other additional distributed rendering software. as far as i'm concerned most have their own batch/distributed renderers (max backburner, xsi satelite rendering, realsoft 3d has native distributed rendering) that work real good when it comes to small 5-10 cpu (as you plan) networks.
if money is issue i wouldn't recommend anything like boxxtech. my advice is rather straightforward, build one yourselves. if you got the time and skills. 5 node farms ain't a good idea with big hardware vendors. and assembling 5 dualcore rendering nodes and maybe some network storage might be both fun, cheap (5 rendering nodes cost the price of about 2 good workstations [no display, no hi-end graphic cards, no cd/burners, fancy keyboards, mice, tablets etc])and give you cool experiences.
