View Full Version : How do you paint stone?
IgnusDei 09-12-2005, 08:48 AM I'm gonna paint a Shadow of the colossus fanart piece, but i don't know how to render natural stone surfaces like (and ESPECIALLY) cliffsides. Can anyone help me out by showing me a tutorial?

What sort of medium are you planning to use? The most successful rockfaces I've made or seen by others involves a good use of impasto build up of paint. It's not required but is a common technique, either with a thickly loaded brush or palette knife. Maybe you could show us a reference picture of something like what you'd like to reproduce.

well, photoshop and a wacom tablet are my mediums, and uh hum, as for a an example of what i'd like to go for...
well, this is one but it's 3d polygons and textures, so that's not the best example, and i don't want to paint it THAT up close... but, still: http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2005/223/reviews/924364_20050812_screen009.jpg
Hm, this is better. still too close, but very nice.
