View Full Version : "alt" instead of "s", possible or not???
rb25_det 09-12-2005, 05:49 AM I was just wondering if its possible to assign the key "alt" instead of "s", when navigating around the xsi viewports, this would make it just like maya, and feels more right....to me anyway, since this is probably the one key i'll be using the most, i thought itd be worth mentioning, as i am just learning the program right now.

Currently not possible with 4.x, but that's exactly one of the many new features in 5.0 suited for people migrating from Maya.
Check out this page for more details: http://www.softimage.com/Products/Xsi/v5/features/default.asp#4

It actually is possible, but it is some kind of hack and not supported officially.
You can put it to some unused weird key on your keyboard (like ¤ or so, depending on what language keyboard you have) with the common hex editor method.
Then you can use a Remapper Tool like http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/remapkey.zip (this one's untested, but there are loads of them flying around) to remap that ¤-key or whatever to ALT.
In V5 it will be a regular feature.
Cheers,
W.

I've remapped it to the "." key, which is right above my "alt" key.

Yes, spacebar is cool. I remapped it becouse of photoshop/Houdini and it feels fine as navigation tool.
