Hi

i have been working on this dragon, its based on a Dnd balck dragon
(i worked from one picture, and have just seen an other and it's quite diffrent, oh well that will teach me to get all the drawings first

i have the head pritty much finished modeling, apart from a few things and i have moved on to working on the body at the moment, theres still a lot to add to it :hmm: and lot of things to change.

(i'm working a seven day week at the moment :argh::argh::argh: so updates might be a bit slow)

Hey, the detail of the head is very nice. I think this will make a great model. Id like to see a few more shots, i think maybe the back and main torso is a little too thin, although id need more shots to verify my presumption. Like, i said the detail in the head is great. Im guising u would probably carry this through to the rest of the body which would make for a very interesting model. Good luck working on this one.

looks nice, the torso is a little skinny looking then again if this was real creature it would struggle to feed because of the horn position, it would get in the way of eating anything except a human standing upright, other than that the dragon looks cool

lol yeah i was gonna say the horns are a tad long - from an evolutionary standpoint either he wouldnt have horns out like that or he wouldnt have a large powerful jaw. Coming along very nicely, the detail in the head is quite cool.

ok cheers for the comments guys

luciferous and sloggo - i'l make the horns a bit diffrent, smaller maybe , or someway he could eat proberly.

darkminds - yeah i do plan on making it as detailed as the head, it's gonna take me a bit, lol

the torso is just only one half at the moment, i'll clone it and render it out when i get in after work, and see what youg guys think then

again thanks for the advice

i'll post some decent pictures up tonight (it was late when i posted)

an update

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a237/tregha/dragon5CGtalk.jpg

ok i've done the wings and altered the horn a bit problery still won't be able to eat, but might or might not change that later.

and nocited a few things on the head i'm not happy with so gonna give that another modeling pass at some point.

right, what i've got to is give the back legs some modeling attention and the neck, then get around to adding some details on the feat, wings..... well pritty much all over, the body.

yea man, this is one of the coolest things ive seen in 3d. Im really loving how the head looks. The body just needs some bump mapping of scales, or something and maybe more muscle definition.

yesy yes yes, this is looking sweet dredd. all over looking good, like i said, think it may need just a bit more beef on its body.
also think the back of the dragon around where the wings attach to the body need some more work, but u prob ent no where finished yet knowing u. pefectionist! :D

still looking cools as f**k.

I like all the details put into the head, the body looks like it could use some more of the same details though, nice work man.

very nice, cool detailing of the head. What are you going to do with it, will it be pure modelling or will you texture it too?

cool guys, adding detail to the body soon

logotomie - yeah i would very much like to texture it and i plan too, but i have only textured a simple robot character before, so it will be a big learning experiance.

i did think about taking it into Zbrush, but then i realize hey i don't acctualy know how to use Zbrush.

logotomie the textures on your dragon are looking awesome

Hopefully i will be looking to complete most of the modeling before i go back to college (in a week and a half :scream: But it will be tough with full time work, so i don't know if that is a bit optomistic.

Small update

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a237/tregha/dragon8CGtalk.jpg

Had a few hours last night modeling but it didn't go too well as i was realy worn out from work (digging gardens all day will do that to ya  )

i started adding a bit of detail to the body, wasted a lot of time experimenting mainly.

hopefully things will go well tonight

On contrary, the scale of this dragon is so huge, that anything it would even want to eat can fit between the horns. What wouldn't fit there, it wouldn't eat anyways...

On topic, this model is quite astonishing, especially the head so far, though I must say, I dislike what you've done to the wings (the frays.) Of course it will have some scars (it must've been attacked by at least one group of megalomania suffering adventures), but if you ask me, this is overdoing it...

[EDIT] Besides, it's a dragon - and you're complaining about the horns, not being evolutionary optimal? :D

great model, i love the horns, how did you make them if you don't mind me asking? again great modeling

cheers guys, the coments are helping me lot

fabionguzman - The horns.... i made the curved bit at the the base and for the rest i just made a section and copyed them and scaled them down then wealded them back to gether, then tweaked. It took a long time and wasn't very sohfisticated.

i need to learn some fast techniqes

Echelon - yeah i had a look again and your right the wings are too frayed, i'm gonna get rid of a few, especaily near where it joins the back of the dragons body.

Ximage - will beef up the back legs, just haven't gotten around to doing anything with them yet

thanks for the info, i'm creating a character with horns and i saved them for last because the techniqe i use is very long as well, your model is great for ref, again thanks for sharing it

Ok a Small update again.

I spent quite a bit of my spare time on modeling the neck over the last couple of days , but unfortunetly it wasn't working very well and was looking crap

so if at first u don't succeed ..... Give up!.. and do something else then come back to it with a fresh head.

so i qwickly did a bit on the tail and under belly

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a237/tregha/dragon10CGtalk.jpg

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a237/tregha/dragon11CGtalk.jpg

the tail looks a bit strange becasue there a LOT of 5 sided faces joining the armour plating, this will be sorted out when i add detail under neath.l

The scales under the belly look terrific. This dragon is lean :-) I am unsure about the tail yet.
