Hey friends, I've got my neck up in work, but I just simply couldn't resist, seems like we've got more time for this challenge, so I'll take this slow, and think through my concept carefully. Another fantastic theme!

All the best for all!

Hey friends, here're my concept sketches(finally!) The first image is not my final composition though, it's just top illustrate what I want to do. It shows a 6-7 year-old girl riding a giant robot made out of household appliances, the head being a tv and the torso being the microwave oven etc etc... The little girl is holding on to a handle of the tv and for some reason is strapped on by a belt, and the robot is jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

I want to portray a kind of innocent, child-like pleasure, to make the girl look like she's strapped on to a very fun ride, hence the belt-thing in the first pic.

I'm still figuring out how to do this comp, to show how exhilirating and fun this ride really is. This will prob end up a very colourful piece.

I'll try to go as fast as I can, I'm currently having my industrial attachment at EggStory Creative Production, and at the same time I'm involved in pre-production for another animation project, so I'll do my best!

Cheers mates

Ok here's a pretty final (and risky) comp I got for the illustration. So it's a little girl riding a robot made of different household appliances, and it's jumping from rooftop to rooftop.

i haven't finalised the robot's design, so I'll model and design as I go along(I always say that...)

The composition for me is really risky, because based on my sketch it doesn'y really look really promising, but I'm willing to take the gamble. Just thought it might be fun eh?

Do tell me what you think of the comp, thanks! Cheers people

Here's the start of the girl model. I just modelled her in the final expression. I'm using reference found in the forums for the girl's head, and I'm referring to Kingdom Heart's characters for the oeverall proportion.

Please do critique, cheers friends...

here's an update for modelling. Did some lighting tests as while I was at it. Mental ray shadow maps, with no global illum or final gather right now.

I decided on this final pose as I thought it makes her look like she's genuinely enjoying the ride.

Haha, now that I look back at these shots it looks like I made the thumbs a bit too big lol...will fix that.

Clothes are still in blocking stage...

Cheers friends!

Great job on the modeling. Along with making the thumb a bit smaller, maybe you can also rotate it a bit so the part that has the thumbprint on it faces more of the inside the front. Keep the updates coming.

You really captured the look of joy in her - and some tweaking on the hands will make them just right too. Now, get going - time's running :wip:

Gunilla - Yup Time's running away from me, better catch up with her... :bounce: Will try my best!

Mr Micro26 - Yup I agree the arms need more work, will fix it asap.

Appreciate all the help and encouragement guys, I understand that time's not on my side,(or anybody's, for that matter) but I'll make sure to finish this one, one way or another.

Thanks, and cheers!

Very nice modeling, especially bringing across the facial expression! I think the ear needs work - unless you don't mind it having oversimplified geometry. Also, the neck and arms look too thin. Again, this may be "stylized" the way you want it. I'm just going by what a real child would look like in my opinion. Good job so far!

mmoir
10-16-2005, 04:03 PM
Hey Wong,

Really like that facial expression and the ear turned out pretty good, like others have mentioned the hand needs some work but so far this is capture her feelings well. Good job with this.

gardogg - Yeah I agree with all your critiques, for the ears I'm not working any further since the final view will be the top-down one so you can't really see the ears anyway. I'm trying to follow the proportions of Kingdom Hearts characters actually, so the anatomy is slightly exaggerated! Yeah I know doesn't exactly look like kingsom hearts material... But thanks for the help, appreciate it!

mmoir - Yup I have fixed the hand, update coming soon!

eddieellis - Thanks man...

Zapan - Hey don't be sorry dude, I don't follow all the threads myself hahaha! :scream: Although you're making me feel pretty guilty right now. Glad you like what you see, and welcome!

I've made some progress with my character, I can almost final her soon, but I'll post an update within 24 hrs alrighty? Cheers friends

hey all, here's a render of the finished girl model, with a blocking version of the robot just for posing purposes.

the second render is the (rough)actual camera view for the illustration.

Lighting right now is still very very experimental, trying lighting with only MR shadow maps and raytrace shadows without GI or Final Gather. Should be interesting as I go along.... Next up will be texturing of the girl first, and playing with shaders.

It's past midnight now at home, gotta sleep, will catch up with u guys later!

Cheers

Hey ace, good to hear from you again, unfortunately I bring some bad news...

This is beginning to sound a bit all too familiar, but I can't carry on with the challenge anymore, I've been trying the past few weeks, but I just can't squeeze anytime into this at all. I actually had a hair solution and shader in place, and was going to proceed,

but another HUGE project has taken over my life now. This one's so huge it'll last till around march, and hopefully we can unveil this trailer on Cgsociety when it's done. As you can probably tell I'm pretty excited about this one, wish I could show you guys more.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

So i'm off to do more work now, and here's wishing everyone the best in the challenge, especially Gunilla and friends for your faith in me, sorry I let you guys down, but I'll make up for it soon!

Cheers friends
