Hi All,

I made this one with Realsoft 4.5. for "robo" contest. I used some digital photos of metal elemetns for the textures and simple shaders. But it worked nicely. Especialy on hi-res you can see how nice the render looks. This bird is based on the gray african parrot I have, or Kongo Parrot as some call it. :)

Is the woman and her hand modelled also... or just a pic?

Thats awesome dude:buttrock:

My only crit, would be that the blurring of the face looks a bit odd. I guess thats because (and this was highlighted in another thread) that blurring and de-focusing are different.

Ah well, the bird is still phenominal.

But the girl's face is defocused. I did not touch any part of the photo (accept for coloruring of the swater - changed from magenta to blue, with some errors... :( ).

I like the model and you did a great job with the texturing. One thing that I notice dough is that the shadows being casted by the bird are a bit too sharp, it would look more convincing if they got a bit blurrier as they got further away from the object casting them aswell. All in all great image, so cheers  .

Ahhh...absolutely love it! Looks great of course, but just the concept of a little mechanical bird that snacks on bits of metal screws and such. Wasn't there an old fairy tale or fable about a Japanese emporor that had a mechanical bird pet made for him...? I forget the whole story...

First off, fab-u render and image.
I only have a one point critique, the merging of the real photo and CG needs help exactly where the bird and the finger is a little fuzzy and needs more definition. Seeing how that's the only thing I have to say It's an amazing photo. Great textures, great lighting, great concecpt and execution.

peace,
Clear:thumbsup:

Man I loved this image. I just jumped in saw the link clicked on it and the first thing I thought was my African Gray (Timmnah) I had. Then I was so in love with this I came back and read the actual post. In other words wonderful, wonderful job. The originality and quality in the details make this suburb in my opinion. :applause:

it's really refreshing to see a robot that's not based on popular demand and impressively executed to.
this should be plugged (but that's just my humble opinion)

  :surprised

i just can't tell which is which. you said you used a digital photo. of the girl? the screw? or the screw is 3D????

:surprised

Girl with the screw are photographed, on this I overlayed the bird. The textures for the bird were constructed using some reference photos of metal elements photographed. Nice feature of Realsoft is that it does not divide objects into faces, instead it crates math representations of curved surfaces, so, you can't see any faces :bounce: A feature not to beat, you can zoom in, zoom in zoom in... no faces :surprised
And the lights can have value >1 (the light brightness here is about 5), so strong sunlight is more easily simulated in speculars.

Absolutly awsome. Besides the shadows being casts the only other issue that i saw with this is a smale texturing issue. Well Its not a "you did this wrong" but more of a "in life wouldnt it be more like this."

http://liquid2k.com/lordshaitan/birdybeak.jpg(You can see this better in the 1600 version)

Ok if this was manifactured with the mouth open then it would be fine, but it looks as though the mouth is opening awaiting the tasty treat. Thus if that is the case then the picture shows what im trying to get to. The lines of the metal from the top beak to the bottom are running straight up and down. Thinking they came from the same piece of metal wouldnt the bottom beak have the "grain" of the metal be running at more of an angle?

Thats the only thing that i can see that caught my eye. Keep up the great work!

LordShaitan :) , thanks, good point, it's a detail, but details are important in such graph. I think I'll try to make an animated creature, but a new one... to see how the metal glows and reflections behave. Would be a nice thing to see. There is a nice point in 3D, which is suprise, sometimes you make a graph, and it seems to live it's on live :D

It was by J.H. Andersen as I recall, and actually was a part of inspiration to this image. I had a book, when I was a child, with a horrible illustration: a mechanical bird with a skull in place of a head. I wonder who had an idea of creating such illustration in children's book. Hmmm.. or perhaps not all of Andersen's tales are for children.:hmm:

I really like this work.. my only crit is... Where is the wire frame to match? Come on now show us alll a lil wireframe!

Akurra

Here's the wireframe - the neck was displaced render-time only.

Its amazing how you could have madesuch a complex bird out of an not as complex mesh. I wont say the mesh is not complex, but it does not look like it can turn out so well.. I really like the job you did with this lighting and texturing.

Stop working! it can never be better than this! its perfect!
