View Full Version : How to make a character move... FORWARD?
noisewar 11-07-2002, 12:06 AM This is a bit wierd to explain, but I'll do my best. I want to create a clip of a character turning, and one of a character moving forward. The problem is "forward" is always defined on the animation curve in WORLD coordinates, so even if I move it using OBJECT coordinates, the saved clip will still use it's absolute direction.
What I'd like is a character that has a FORWARD clip, and I can control which direction he's going with clips for rotating left or right.
Any ideas?

If you group the character(I mean the geometry, bones, etc) you can then rotate the group and the walk cycle will inherit this rotation.
Is this what you want to do?

You, sir, totally own. That way works great!
Empleh,
Just noticed your location! Can you mail me one? I really miss the greasy burgers and fresh fries.....ahhhhhhhhhhh!
You ever been to the one near San Dimas? I'm sure they're all the same but that one was my favorite!!!!

noisewar,
I was having the same problem in terms of world and object coordinates and while the grouping the character solution works ok, I am having the problem that once animated the pivot for the group remains in the same place instead of moving with my character. This results in a rotation around an origin that is far away from where my character is at.
Is there any way to get the pivot of the group to move along with the character during its walk cycle? Are you having this same problem noisewar? The answer is probably something simple that I have overlooked, but any input would be extremely helpful. Thanks.
