Hi everyone! Looks like this is going to be extreme fun and interesting challenge!
The picture could be anything.. Hmm.. What makes picture spectacular? That was the first question for myself and I came to the conclusion that it should include interesting camera angle, good rhythm/flow and a little bit exaggeration... and of course overally good composition.
Well, those things in my mind I did quite a lot very rough thumbnail sketching. Here's one thumbnail that I kinda like. Only the subject matter is a little bit too common. There's dolphins and a mermaid jumping from the water. The picture is kinda upside down; the water is on the top and the sky on the bottom... Let's if it
makes the pic interesting enough to finish.
NOOB!

the one b4 the one u selected looks interesting, the one u selected also looks cool.
lets see more development...

Ahh..jst bout a few seconds before i wanna edit my post...I got it wrong man...! Sorry for dat impression!
Haha.. Anyway, can i still join ur thread cuz of my "otnemeM"'s memory?
Keep updating the Concept!.. A mystery move on pencil stroke..hehe
clue: naked lady, mermaid? , dolphin, underwater monster~...Waiting for a surfacing!
Good to see you back teemur! I really like you'r idea, and even if it's perhaps too "common" I think the end result is what matters. It's hard to come up with something that nobody else has done before anyway.
Let's see some value studies (which you rock at). :)
Good luck!

Here's color test.. I'm not 100% happy with it. Needs some warmer tones.. more like caribbean feeling. Well, let's see how this is going to develope...

Loads of good concept artists in Finland, it seems.. :) It almost feels as if we saw the view from the point of view of that closest dolphin. It's cool.. great sense of movement... just needs maybe some unique element IMHO..

Hmm... there's still that "line art" -milestone... I thought it would have been removed. :/
Anyway,
I tried to make it a little bit more interesting by adding some surrealistic elements in. I'm quite happy with the flow it has currently.

this looks like it would be really good but one question? are mermaids/mermen real?
i dont think so.... be careful read the inspiration page again the trick to making something spectacular is making it believable or you might find this beauiful image will be knocked out in the first round and I wouldnt want that to happen to what could be potentially a very beautiful picture

Ok, Here's new concept.. The racers are about to cross the finish line and the winner planning to celebrate his victory in a tub with topless ladies and champagne...
But take a closer look who is the real winner of race! x) I pretty much like this concept.. Just would like to find more "striking" composition.
TeemuR
09-13-2005, 06:34 PM
dinodog_Jr: No, you're not asking too much. :D It's just the hardest part of the work... hehe! ;)
Squibbit: Yes, some extra concepts wouldn't hurt.. :P
Soriah: Very good point there! :o I just readed the introduction section and thought that all the neccessary information would be there... but on the other hand they don't directly deny supernatural/fantasy creatures... but if one includes them, it really should be rendered so realistically that it looks real/believable, tho...
Yep, adding legs should to the trick, if fantasy creatures are not what they're looking for :) Hmm...Quite many seems to be doing something that couldn't be possible.

I love the composition of both the 'racers' pic and the mermaid/dolphin one.... the snail one - although very good - reminds of that guinness ad.... the joy of the mermaid one is much more exciting... but hark! what was that about elephants?
...maybe have an elephant breaching the waves amongst a school(?) of dolphins...
believable? - well - maybe its being fired from a zoological sub...maybe?
nice conept sketches though - good luck

Good stuff and goos perspective:thumbsup: .I'm wondering if the twister are not too much..i mean that they do not bring anything more to your image, I think indeed that they will charge your image unnecessarily... concentrate on the race, and you will add this kind of thing once your finished cars... as that you will be able to better return account to you if your twisters are necessary or not. Good luck . i'll keep an eye on your work and come forward to see your next step.:)

I love the deadly garden! Great perspective. I love the coloring and your are doing a great job! I think it would be great if the garden itself was more deadly. If that makes any sense. Perhaps more intense lighting. Maybe she is the brightest spot in the garden while everything around her is getting darker and darker in the thicket of the garden. Sort of like something is coming! But whatever you do im sure im going to love it! ;)

This is a potential piece combine wif instinct plots dat this challenge should possess.
I sense the hidden EMotional.
Emotional from the creepy Atmosphere.
This Atmosphere will conduct the Crown's sad story into our mind. The Sad story without telling the viewer & let us get into it is a magical spell.
I strongly believe the power in this wonderful piece.
U got plenty of Alive objects to ref;ect the word- S.p.e.c.t.a.c.u.l.a.r.

Alright. I tried to composition + perspective more interesting. I played around for fun with 3d-program with very simple geometry to look for more interesting camera views. Of course I could have done it straight with Photoshop, but it's always fun to look for different approaches in digital media. Here's (http://koti.mbnet.fi/~tepox/merry_blocksit.jpg) the 3d-geometry I used for the composition.

I just did something to my dolphins concept. Mainly remade the mermaid's/girl's pose. Don't know which one she should be. I guess she should be a human as someone told me earlier, because of the contest rules, but I think they are quite ambiguous. So I don't know if there's anything wrong to use mythical creatures and many other participants seem to use them aswell.

Quite happy with it so far. Some comments wouldn't do bad, tho. :)

Hi there! Quite some concepts you have going here... so which one will it be?
They all look quite spectacular to me but if I have to pick one I say the last one... the lights in that cave, the climber and the fire ... it can turn out really well. Good luck:thumbsup:

I think u r heading to the right direction. It has much potential and coz of the light and nice perspective already looks spectacular. just define shapes, add details and u'll get it :)

This could be a good landscape picture, but id say landscapes take a bit more than week to be godly awesome. So good luck! :wip:
I think that your previous clown picture worked well. Althought im not huge fan of clowns anyway.
Hurry!

Starting to take a shape, but it needs more content... have to figure out what that would be.. some sort of statue, ancient city.. or something more orginal..
I had this crazy idea to make the climber barbequing a sausage using the heat below him.. :D (But that just breaks the mood.

Gunilla: Yep, I'm quite lost with my concepts..too many ideas... At the moment I believe "the caves" could have potential to make the most spectacular of them.
NinjaASSN: Yep, this could be it.. -FINALLY!- :)
Falcor_: Thanks! One week could be quite close estimation. Let's see if I can make it. :)
About the clowns: yep, I'm not fan of them either... they actually disgust me. :D
sh@ke: Thanks! I appreciate your words. and I really like how your work is coming out. :)
the1st_angel: Good to see you! :) I'm trying to do my best here... let's see if it's enough..
And thanks again for your support, guys!

Nice piece. I think the arch works well. This piece has a lot of potential. The lighting is really taking shape.
BTW, I hope you dont totally give up on the clown piece. That could be a great picture.

that's awesome. great work i cant wait to see more. :)
i just have one thing to say about it... the perspective is there but it seems a bit forced...
maybe if you try moving if you try to move the top most moutians back a bit... i am not sure some vegitation would help there too hide the prespective a bit.

Slav: Triple thanx to you! hehe! ;) And thanks for the feedback. You're right about the "forced perspective". Trying to do some fixing if I'm going back to that stage.
Squibbit: Thanks, dude! Appreciate that! :)

I'm quite happy about the direction this is going.. The time just isn't in my side.. Btw. couple days ago I got the job from the same place where Squibbit and Falcor_ are working. It's quite a honour to work with so talented and nice guys as they are. =)

Have to be realistic. This is the only concept that I could "finish". 24 hours left.. ;) The caves concept is just too complicated to finish in that time. And work day tomorrow.. hmm. I have something about 6 hours to finish this.. let's see... :/

Nice image, though I'm surprised you don't think you have time for the other one. It's almost done! I would think that some selective emphasis would be enough. Ah well. Best of luck.
