Wow, I didn't know if I had anything worthy enough to post here! I would almost consider this done, but, honestly- Everything I do is a work in progress, and can always use work.

This took me a while to scan in. It was so big it gave me problems getting it all on the scanner. Luckily I didn't have to cut it together or anything. It's an original character, named Roxy. Yeah.

Decided to play with coloring it. I wasn't going to, but.. not sure if I like it.

Here's the black and white version, mostly because I sort-of like it better.

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that my line style is very messy and sketchy. Though, I kind-of like that aspect of it. At least 'Trashed Linework' is kind of unique.. maybe?

I know the lips totally need work, and there's some stuff off, though I'm not sure what exactly. Critque always welcome!

I agree.... there is definitely some stuff off! :hmm:

I think most of the problems anatomy-wise relate to the bridge area of her nose, which in my opinion is too wide. Since the light source is obviously from the left hand side of the picture, simply removing the hard shading on the left side of the nose should sort out this problem somewhat - and make the the shading more coherent. It also seems as though her right eye (left side of picture) is slightly too low and perhaps too far away from her nose.

I personally quite like the sketchy feel of your linework, because its exactly how I tend to draw as well. Your style seems to have a strong anime influence I think, judging by the way your highlights and shadows are not separated by mid-tones. For your colour version though, I think it would be better if you just use this linework as a guideline on a separate layer and paint over it completely, maybe picking out some of the edges afterwards if you want to. As it is, I don't really like how the 'sketchy' linework shows up over your colouring.

Finally, you should work on defining the eyes a little bit more as this will give the character a lot more.....well, character! There is definitely potential with this piece though, keep at it ;)

Wow, I didn't think of this. I thought the other eye was off. Hrm. I'll experiment with moving it around.

Very much, actually! I tend to have a very anime-style, but I was trying something really different here.

(Rough stuff of the same character above, that I never finished.)

(Rough of her partner in crime, which ended up having a really big head. I did like the hair though.)

I struggled with this a lot, actually. I think you're 100% on the money here.

Do you mean the eyes themselves or ridges around the eyes? I have like no experience coloring detailed eyes. This was my best attempt, and was surprised they came out looking as they did. I did some googling on eyes, actually, to come up with what I did here.

Any pointers here would be welcome! And thanks for the post. ^^

Hey Ashura, I'd agree with MastahUK that there's nothing wrong with drawing sketchy -- actually it works well for the flowing hair, so that's good :). Umm, I think with the eyes you could try outlining them a bit more definitely (definitively?) or put in eyelashes or something, in comparison with the rest of the lineart they're really lightly drawn. If you define the outline a bit more it'd be easier also to make sure your colours don't merge together, like you've got on her right eye with the blue and skintone. Keep drawing, I especially like the way you use such light colours and your anime style pichurs are cool!
