View Full Version : maya to c4d via FBX - please help
robotbob 09-09-2005, 11:20 AM hello
i am needing to transport a file from maya to c4d with rigging and animation data included for rendering but am experiencing problems - please check the jpeg - (i have used the fbx converter)
other info
my friend uses maya 6.0.1 and i am using c4d 9.1
the model was created in c4d
the maya bones do not sit within nulls therefore have the rotation and position data at the top level.
any ideas ?
thanks
pedro

could it be that the Maya expport does not include the T-stance (Zero) pose?
if you like you can email me the FBX and i check it in Motonbuilder (oliver@lovathon.com)

if its also wrong there, then your friends needs to change his export--
else, try testing the many import-options for FXX in c4d preferences--

You need to select all of the bones of the character in Maya and bake them before exporting to fbx. Select the top bone of the character and use the MEL comand select -hi;
Then use keys>bake simulation which will bake the rotations/translations of each bone. Then delete any unnecessary parts of the rig, such as spline controls and rig bones that aren't bound to the skin. Try exporting now via fbx. Unless you happen to have C4d 9.5 which allows MB6 fbx files, you may have to use the converter from Alias to bring it into Cinema.
Good luck...

hi fellas
Olli Wuensch - thanks olli there are alot of options for import i have gone thru them and tried the obvious things here and there.
Zendorf - we had already tried baking the rig but phil ( maya guy ) reckons there are not many options for export on his side and what we got in cinema was two identical polymesh with no animation data ??? i am using the converter downloaded from alias and converting it to fbx 5.5. hmmmmmmm
cheers for your time

of course there remains the possibility of the converter to screw it up (try opening a converted file in MB5.5 and your chraracter explodes, c4d does a pretty good job on importing though)
Have you tried opening it in the c4d R 9.5 demo to see if it works there?
And the offer remains open to check the file if it imports properly in MB

sorry for the late reply ollie - that is a generous offer , we have decided to leave it for now as we are both busy with our actual employment to fuss with this problem for now
cheers mate
