Spectacular 2D Entry: Jon Monaghan

This is the 3d concept start of my entry. I went a little crazy on the city as I felt the perspective will be hard to get right on that area, I will probably wind up having to remove some of those buildings anyway as it seems too cluttered. So this is probably all the 3d work I will do on it. I am starting now on the 2d.

The main parts of the piece are not in yet, because they will be drawn in 2d.

I haven’t thought of a title for the piece yet.

Here’s the story:

The piece will feature a poor skinny farmer man in the center, he is on his knees and striking his left hand into the air holding a cross in fear. In fear of what? Giant flying machines coming from sky and a giant ethereal “death-star like” spaceship in the distance so big it can be seen in space. The mass of this mother-ship is causing violent tides so waves will be crashing on the shores. The ships coming down are mid-evil like flying machines, they do this to not scare the town people… they come in something this old civilization can understand and not be afraid of. (plus it just fits better in the composition :) ) In the distance the upper class society (the castle area) will be shown in the process of building a telescope device, in response to the giant mother ship that has appeared over head in the past weeks or so.

The idea is to show the difference between rich, smart people and the lower class uneducated people in their reactions to a phenomena like the visit from aliens. The rich use science and observe, while the lower class assumes it’s the work of the devil and exhibits his fear using religion as a defense.

This is a fantasy piece, however the symbolism and ideas can relate to any society in any time.



I fear though that this will not finish in time as I am very busy... :(
