Is there a "Target Weld" type feature in Maya, as in Max? I realize that I can select the Vert and Snap it and then weld, but I'd rather be able to weld and snap at the same time, as in Max...

If you go to |Edit Polygons>Merge Vertices>OptionBox you'll see a dialog box for "distance". Enter the tolerance for welding selected vertices. Not quite the same, but pretty handy. The other option is use temporary snapping (hold down the v key, MMB drag the vertex over to the target, then weld)

Thanks for the info. My problem with a Merge tolerance, is that it merges them at a point inbetween the two... I just wish there was a way to pick a vert and snap it to another while at the same time welding the two together.

Thanks,

Vic

i wrote a script for this not so long ago. follow the tool prompts and all should be well, simply: have nothing selected when invoking the tool, and select vertices one at a time (firstly the vert to move and weld to target, then the target). if your not running 4.5, you might need to remove the new -tct flag from the scriptCtx.

happy snappy!

And about the tolerance settings, it just matters when you have more than two verticles selected at a time.
It just checks the distance between two verticles, and if it's more than the tolerance, it won't weld 'em. So for an example if you had a box with every face as it's own, and all of the verticles in the corners being slightly appart. You would just select all the verticles and set the tolerance to something enough small that only the verticles in each corner would weld togeather.

So usually you should just set the tolerance to something very big, like 10 or 100 or something, so you can weld anything you want, and start playing with it when you need to weld many verticles at a time.
